About

Ripley  is located along the Ohio River in Brown County. The village is proud of its abolitionist history and its citizens who assisted thousands of slaves reach freedom on the Underground Railroad. Two historic homes still stand as monuments to this point of time. There are many historic homes that still stand but two are open to the public: the John Rankin House is operated by the Ohio Historical Society and stands on Rankin Hill above Ripley, providing an unparalleled view of the Ohio River. The second, The John Parker House, is currently being examined by Congress to be inducted into the National Park Service. Today, Ripley is charming village with a focus on revitalizing its riverfront for all residents to enjoy with a $16 million dollar Appalachian Community Grant. Civic organizations include the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs.
