Major hospitals are located 20-25 miles north of DeMossville. St. Elizabeth and Cincinnati Children’s Hospitals are in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

Northern Kentucky

St. Elizabeth’s satellite hospital in Williamstown, Grant County is 19 miles away; Mercy Hospital Anderson is just across the Ohio River 20 minutes north of Butler. The Butler Community Volunteer Fire Department provides EMS services for the city.

Butler once boasted the state’s longest wooden-covered bridge. Designed as a double-truss burr bridge, it was 456 feet long. When it was completed in 1871 the bridge served until it was damaged and torn down following the devastating flood of 1937.

This is where central Kentucky comes to play. Horse farms dot the surrounding area and the calendar of events monthly includes horse shows and competitions. 'Thaxton’s Licking River Canoe Rentals' offers canoe and kayakers access to the Licking River. Fishermen like to try their hand catching small-mouth here. 'Twin Rivers Fishing Lake' is located in nearby Falmouth. 'Kincaid Lake State Park' offers 850 acres to explore with camping, golfing, swimming and fishing with more pounds of largemouth bass per acre than any other lake in the state. 'Cedar Line Nature Preserve' has 43 wooded acres and has several trails to walk to enjoy nature. 'Pendleton County’s Historical Society' provides an outlet for genealogical research, and an active 'Kincaid Regional Theatre' summer season appeals to audiences across the county. The county is home of the annual 'Kentucky Wool Festival', a one-of-a-kind celebration of the sheep heritage common in the area. 

'Pendleton Athletic Park' in nearby Falmouth offers soccer, football, and baseball fields; tennis, volleyball and croquet courts; and a one-mile nature trail. 'Pendleton County Fairgrounds' hosts the annual county fair. The 'Griffin Fitness Center' located at the high school is open nightly for fitness buffs. The 'Pendleton County Country Club' in addition to offering golf and other sports serves as a center for nightlife.

A small shop supplies the daily needs of the city, but most residents do their shopping in nearby Falmouth. A larger shopping trip for residents heads north to Florence Mall in Northern Kentucky, or south to Lexington’s Fayette Mall.

Butler sits in the rich, fertile rolling hills of Northern Kentucky’s Licking River Valley, about halfway between Cincinnati and Lexington. The tiny city, with just over 600 residents, sits on the scenic Licking River. It’s definitely a rural lifestyle with plenty of hometown atmosphere. Butler was established in 1852, and before the name change to honor U.S. congressmen William O. Butler, it was originally called Fourth Lock, because of its destination as the fourth lock on the Licking River. Butler is located eight miles north of Falmouth.

St. Rt. 27 is the primary access through Pendleton County to Butler with Ky. Rt. 177 (Bridge Street) the primary loop through this small town. The Falmouth/Gene Snyder Airport on St. Rt.22 just outside Falmouth is the nearest airport with Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport approximately 20 miles north of Butler.

Several Northern Kentucky hospitals and their branches, St. Elizabeth and St. Elizabeth, are within a few minutes driving.

Thorn Hill Dragway, a quarter-mile drag strip near the village, was originally the Thorn Hill Airfield and was built during Prohibition by “Bootleggers” who were transporting moonshine by small plane. Today a local car club runs the track.

Wide-open spaces leave plenty of time and room for outdoor enthusiasts, and many homes nearby house horses for leisure riding. Kenton Lake and the Licking River provide sport for fishermen, and AJ Jolly Golf Course and Park offer additional recreation in the area. 

The Morning View Heritage Area is 213 acres of dedicated conservation space. Although not open to the public at this time, there are plans to permit hiking, bird watching and education uses on the land in the future. The Mary Kathryn Dickerson Learning Center – which is an English-style barn made mostly of salvaged and hand-sawn wood – is located on this property.

Morning View residents have to take a short drive to meet most of their daily shopping needs, with the shopping center Florence Mall just 15 minutes away. Cincinnati and additional shopping malls offer more extensive shopping within a 30-minute drive.

Tucked into extreme southeastern Kenton County nestled near a bend in the Licking River, Morning View is one of the smallest neighborhoods in the county. Primarily rural, residents here enjoy wide-open spaces with nearby access to several lakes, golf courses, and the river.

Kentucky Rts. 177 and 14 (Rich Road) meander through Morning View. The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) provides bus service through the region, and into downtown Cincinnati. Greater Cincinnati International Airport is a close 14 miles.

St. Elizabeth Hospital East is located in Fort Thomas. Nearby hospitals include St. Elizabeth Medical Center-North, St. Elizabeth Medical Center-South and St. Elizabeth West in Florence. Several doctors have offices in the city. Emergency medical service (EMS) is available.

Twelve miles south of Cincinnati along U.S. 27, in the heart of Campbell County, is Alexandria. Named after Alexandria, Virginia, the home of its first settlers, the town was laid out in the early part of 19th century, but was not incorporated until 1856. Alexandria has been the county seat of Campbell County since 1840. There are 8,500 residents.

Alexandria Community Park has over 80 acres that were originally part of the Alexandria Reservoir. A walking trail circles the nine-acre fishing lake. This park features baseball fields, basketball courts, play area as well as miles of paved walking trails. This park hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Fishing Derby, Halloween Haunted Walk and a Christmas Tree Lighting. Tribute Park is a small area that pays homage to all who serve our country – from armed services to the police, firefighters and EMS teams. There are commemorative bricks in this park that serve as personal tributes. 

Alexandria has tennis and track facilities available through the public schools. Six miles from the city is a county park offering fishing, golfing, camping, picnicking and swimming. The nearby Ohio and Licking Rivers also offer water activities. Sports are plentiful and amateur softball and soccer games can be seen all summer. 

The Alexandria Community Center offers fitness classes as well as other programs. Many residents enjoy a walking membership at the center.

Major shopping centers and malls are within a 20-minute drive. Alexandria, a farming community for many years, still has farm supply stores as well as several stores to serve the needs of the city farmer. Village Green Shopping Center offers a wide variety of shopping opportunities from WalMart to many smaller retailers. Established convenience stores and local chain stores are located in the city or nearby.

The small town atmosphere is still evident in Alexandria. With its easy access to major highways and vast undeveloped land, however, the city is destined to become a center of significant residential growth. With U.S. 27 intersecting I-471 just north of the city, and the AA Highway crossing the southern tip of Campbell County, Alexandria is one of the “new” focal points in Campbell County and is charting a steady growth pattern. Homes in and around Alexandria vary in style and price. Prospective buyers will find an impressive selection of modest subdivision homes, stately homes and more elaborate custom homes from which to choose. Many new developments are proof positive Alexandria is the fastest growing market in Campbell County.

Public transportation is provided by the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK). US 27, I-471, the AA Highway and several state highways provide quick access from Alexandria to Cincinnati and Kenton, Boone, Pendleton and Bracken Counties, and the southern parts of Campbell County. It takes just 30 short minutes to drive to downtown Cincinnati, Ohio or the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Kincaid Lake State Park and A.J. Jolly Park and Golf Course are both about 15 miles from DeMossville. Both parks offer hiking, fishing, camping and golf.

The retailers and restaurants of Alexandria, Kentucky offer the widest variety of shopping.

DeMossville was settled in 1852 and was named for the DeMoss family. The town sits along the L&N (Louisville & Nashville) Railroad, which stopped running in 1982.
