Cincinnati, OH

Jewish Hospital Kenwood is the closest hospital to Reading with a 5-minute drive time. This hospital is located on Kenwood Road in Sycamore Township and features a state-of-the-art patient tower as well as a 24-hour emergency department. It also offers the region’s only adult Blood and Marrow Transplant Center. Bethesda North Hospital –  a Level III Trauma Center –  is a 15-minute drive away, with well-used emergency room facilities. 

Other Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, University Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 25-minute drive.

In 1794,German immigrant Abraham Voorhees moved his family from their home near Philadelphia, building a large log cabin along the west bank of the Millcreek. Another visitor, Harvey Redinbo, also purchased land nearby. This early settlement was known as Voorhees-Town, but was later changed to Reading in the honor of Redinbo’s hometown. Reading was incorporated as a village on March 24, 1851.

Reading is TV’s Mayberry come to life. Little League baseball, soccer, scouts, and cheering the local high school football team are big here with the focus on community events. Koening Park, famous for seemingly monthly festivals and Little League baseball, is busy year round with civic or social groups renting the shelters for reunions and parties of all types. Centennial Park and its football stadium is likewise kept busy. The community sponsors events all year long, ranging from Easter egg hunts, parades, festivals and arts and crafts shows. A busy historic and nearby senior center offer programs and outings. The community pool is a cool place to hang out during the summer. 

Nearby Sharon Woods draws Reading residents for its hiking and bike trails around the lake, 18-hole golf course, vast picnic areas and scores of things to do.

Two separate corridors form the shopping district in Reading:  the Reading Road corridor and the Benson Street Historic District. If you’re shopping for anything bridal related from music to cakes to tiaras, Reading, along Benson Street, is the Bridal Capital of the region. There are 10+ gown shops and 34+ wedding professionals to help make that day really special. The neighborhood also has many local shops and restaurants for every day needs. 

The upscale Kenwood Towne Center is a short 10-minute drive and offers 100s of national brand stores along with Nordstrom, Dilliard's and Macy's.

Reading, the “Crossroads of Opportunity”, is located four miles north of downtown Cincinnati within the I-275 beltway. As one of Cincinnati’s original suburbs it quickly became a ‘bedroom’ community. Families and businesses alike have been here, some for many generations, either living ‘down in the valley’, or up on ‘the hill’. A large portion of the city includes housing from 1880’s; traditional Cape Cod and ranch homes are also prevalent. Businesses continue to relocate to the area because of its ease in transportation and access to employees.

Reading

Twenty minutes from downtown Cincinnati, Reading has easy access to both I-75, I-71, and the Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway, making it one of the more accessible neighborhoods in the Greater Cincinnati beltway. Queen City Metro buses serve the community along busy Reading Road. It’s about a 30-minute drive to the Greater Cincinnati International Airport.

The country-like atmosphere of Amberley Village, named for a village in England, has been carefully preserved through the years. It has 3,600 residents and is a Tree City USA per the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Baseball fields, tennis courts, a walking track and a children’s play	area are available by the municipal building for use by Amberley Village residents. French Park has picnic areas and hiking paths as well a lovely picnic areas. The Mayerson Jewish Community Center is located in the village and is a gathering place for area residents. The facility has indoor and outdoor pools, state-of-the-art fitness center as well as many fitness classes.  The J also hosts many arts and cultural events and welcomes all regardless of race, religion or ability. The village hosts an annual ice cream social.

Amberley Village has a choice of three large shopping areas: Kenwood Towne Centre and Sycamore Plaza are about 10 minutes away. For everyday needs, nearby Pleasant Ridge has several local shops and restaurants.  Nearby Dillonvale Shopping Center is a short drive and has a grocery store, hardware store, drug store as well as other shops and a cafe.

Amberley Village is located in the center of Cincinnati and is known for its winding streets, towering trees and elegant homes. This is a lovely residential area with many beautiful homes located on one or more acres of land creating a park-like atmosphere. Because many of the homes were custom built, Amberley Village provides a range of housing prices and designs with lots that ramble luxuriously over wide, velvety lawns. Some even have picturesque white fences to outline their spacious grounds, for an added concept of rural living. This quiet, congenial community is the result of careful planning by both its citizens and government.

There is no public transportation in Amberley Village except school bus service. Ronald Reagan Highway is located on the edge of the village, provides quick and easy access to 1-75 and 1-71 and 1-275. Downtown Cincinnati is 20 minutes away.

Six of Cincinnati’s major hospitals including Christ Hospital, University Hospital, Good Samaritan, and the Childrens Hospital Medical Center are within 15 to 20 minutes. The Daniel Drake Center for post-acute care is located within a five to 10-minute drive. The Tri-Health Evendale Hospital is a 10-minute drive. Mercy Health - Fairfield Hospital is 15-minutes away. Wyoming operates a full clinic staffed 24 hours a day.

Wyoming was named after the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania, with settlers arriving  in the early 1800s. The Miami & Erie Canal located in Lockland brought workers to that area who in turn built their homes in Wyoming. In 1851 with railroad service, residential subdivisions grew and Wyoming became an official village in 1874 with 600 residents. In 1951 the village became a city with 5,000 residents. Today, old-home lovers traveling down the wide tree-lined streets of Wyoming can relive much of this community’s early grandeur.

The Wyoming Civic Center is a hub of bowling, teenage activities and adult social programs. Many organizations such as the Junior Women’s Club, the Wyoming Women’s Club and Kiwanis use the center as a meeting place. There is an active Newcomers Group. 

The Wyoming Golf Club is a private 9-hole course with paddle tennis and swimming. Winton Woods features a public 18-hole golf course. Glenview golf course is located in nearby Glendale. There are other private country clubs: Kenwood, Clovernook and Maketewah, each about 15 minutes away. 

The Wyoming Recreation Center program provides a broad spectrum of activities, gymnasiums, skate park, athletic fields, playgrounds and day camps, as well as swimming pools, swim lessons and swim teams and exercise programs for all ages. 

The Wyoming Swim Club is available by membership. The Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA is minutes away.  

Wyoming is home to  six parks, plus playgrounds and fields with baseball, soccer and football fields. There are also several trails for hikers and bikers to enjoy. 

The community hosts an annual Art Show in May. Concerts and outdoor movies are held on the Village Green and Civic Center during the summer. The annual May Fete is community festival with rides, games and fun. The Fourth of July celebration is a huge tradition with a parade, fireworks and a fun Muddy Pig race. The Fall Festival is held in October and features vendors along the streets, with food and crafts. Light Up Wyoming is held in December as is the One-Stop Shop held usually the  first Saturday in December.

Local Wyoming shops and restaurants are available in the village area. The Wyoming Pastry Shop was established in 1934 and has earned many local awards for their baked goods. There are several cafes and restaurants to enjoy – Half Day Cafe, Gabby’s Cafe, CWC The Restaurant, Tela Bar + Kitchen, Wyoming Community Coffee and Station Family + BBQ. Kenwood Towne Centre is about 15 minutes away and offers 100+ national brand stores as well as Nordstrom, Macy's and Dillard's department stores.

Vestiges of its leisurely horse and carriage days are evident in the many Victorian houses with spacious stables and gazebos in the gardens. All are hidden in the seclusion of ancient shade trees. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places is one district composed of 300 homes. In recent years, new homes have been added in transitional versions of good taste. But they still reflect the same prosperity, the same sense of well-being as those in older sections of the city. The beauty of Wyoming’s landscape, with its many hills and valleys, attracts people of all ages. At night, many high points offer a lighted-jewel panorama of the city that is a sight to behold. Residents share a glorious heritage and cultural advantages. Wyoming allows all this and more within minutes.

I-75 is five minutes away and downtown Cincinnati is about 20 minutes via the highway. Ronald Reagan Highway provides quick access to the east and west sides of town. Cincinnati buses serve Wyoming on a 30-minute schedule.

The well-established village of Lockland offers charming, modest homes and a sense of hometown community.

Lockland residents enjoy six parks, including Gardner Park, which features soccer fields, basketball court, sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits and a paved walking trail. The Veterans Memorial is located by the area’s bandstand. The community’s recreational department offers youth baseball and basketball leagues. There are many seasonal activities for all ages as well.

Lockland has many smaller businesses including restaurants and shops. Tri County Mall and Kenwood Towne Centre are both a 10-minute drive, offering hundreds of national brand stores.

Historically, Lockland is an industrial community due to its location along the Miami-Erie Canal, which remained operational until 1929. This canal was replaced by Interstate 75. Lockland celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1999 and installed a clock tower and memorial plaza for this special occasion.  Its name is from the first set of lock gates found on the Miami and Erie Canal – a part of the transportation route from New Orleans to New York City.

Lockland’s central location along I-75 provides quick access to I-71, I-74 and I-275 and is one of its greatest business and industrial assets. Driving time to downtown is 15 minutes.

At its entrance, Roselawn’s business district extends a hearty welcome that sets the tone of the entire community. There are 6,700 residents who enjoy living along gas and gas-like street lamp streets. .

Roselawn has three small shopping centers: The Valley Shopping Center, Hillcrest Square and Summit Plaza. These are within walking distance for most residents. The post office and public library are conveniently located in the Valley Center. Kenwood Towne Center and Sycamore Plaza with over 200 national-brand stores including Nordstrom’s, Macy’s and Dillards, is a 10-15 minute drive.

Visitors find a delightful structure with a complete group of shops, stores, a library branch and fifty professional offices all under one roof. It is indeed a fitting introduction to the lovely, unpretentious residential areas that lie beyond. Most of the homes are two-story English and early American styles which are neatly situated on small, well-kept lots. In addition to the interesting variety of designs, the houses offer a wide range in size and price. The many fine restaurants, the congenial atmosphere, and the easy access to Interstate 75 make Roselawn even more attractive.

Queen City Metro buses connect Roselawn with Downtown Cincinnati on a regular schedule about 25 minutes apart during the day, and more frequently at rush hours, with the trip to town taking 30 minutes. Access to I-75 is about a mile from Roselawn. The Ronald Reagan Highway, to the north, gives access to I-71 and I-275.

Residents can enjoy the parks of nearby Wyoming and Village of Lockland, including Gardner Park, Jonte Park, Major Jim Brown Park, Whitaker Park, Richardson Park and Tangeman Park, which offer basketball, playgrounds, baseball fields, walking paths, a frisbee golf course and other recreational opportunities.

Kenwood Towne Centre is a 10-minute drive, offering hundreds of national brand stores. Nearby Wyoming and Lockland have many local shops and restaurants to enjoy.

This small community has under 750 residents. Arlington Heights consists of affordable, older, homes of various styles.

This community has easy access to Interstate 75 for north and south travel. It is located 15 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. Close-by connections to Ronald Reagan Highway, I-71, and I-275 make traveling throughout Cincinnati a 15-minute drive.
