Introduction
Union Township has 3,000 residents with a third who live in unincorporated areas. The township is located along the Ohio River which includes the historic village of Ripley. The Rankin House (in Ripley) overlooks the Ohio River and was a home where slaves found haven when fleeing from Kentucky. The John Parker House is another historic home (and now a museum) that commemorates the life of John Parker who secured his own freedom from slavery, settled in Ripley and was also active in the Underground Railroad.

Many enjoy the Ohio River with fishing, boating, water and jet skiing. The annual Ohio Tobacco Festival is held in August in Ripley. The town also hosts an annual River Village Christmas event in December.
