Fairfax has a mayor-council form of government made up of a mayor and six at large council members. City council appoints a village administrator. The long-standing Frisch’s Mainliner Restaurant is a familiar gathering place for those from the area. Fairfax’s convenient location makes it just minutes from area shopping and is 10 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. One finds all kinds of affordable homes in Fairfax from older residences to newly built houses and condominiums. The community is seeing much “infill” construction of newer homes that are replacing older, obsolete houses.

Fairfax is located on Route 50, a five-minute drive to I-71. Fairfax is located 10 minutes east of Downtown Cincinnati, and is served by the Queen City Metro Bus Service.

Many doctors offices are located along Red Bank Road in nearby Madisonville. "Medpace", a research-based drug and medical device company is located at the corner of Madison and Red Bank Roads. Fairfax is a 15-minute drive to "Jewish Hospital Kenwood" which is located on Kenwood Road in Sycamore Township. This hospital features a state-of-the-art patient tower as well as a 24-hour emergency department. It is the region’s only adult Blood & Marrow Transplant Center. "Bethesda North Hospital", a Level III Trauma Center, is located in the adjoining Montgomery area and is a short 20-minute drive away.

Other Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, University Hospital (known for its advanced medical research) and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 20-minute drive.

Fairfax offers a few stores and restaurants along Route 50. Minutes away and within walking distance are the many boutiques and restaurants in Mariemont, including the Mariemont Theater. Kenwood Towne Center with 200 specialty shops and three anchor stores is a 10-minute drive away. Nearby, Hyde Park, Mt. Lookout and Norwood have many shopping and dining opportunities and are only 5-10 minutes away.

Fairfax Swim Club is a private community pool that offers swim and diving leagues. The community offers ceramics classes, teen dances, soccer camp, a men’s basketball league and a co-ed volley ball league. The Cincinnati Sports Club offers its members indoor and outdoor pools, indoor athletic field, fitness classes as well as sports camps. The Murray Bike Trail is nearby and is used by runners and bicyclists. The proposed Wasson Way bike and walking trail will run through Fairfax. Walkers and bikers would then be able to head either south towards Lunken Airport or north towards the Little Miami Bike Trail. There are two public golf courses nearby – one at Lunken Airport (Reeves) and The Little Miami Golf Center in Newtown. Fairfax is a short drive to several of Cincinnati’s most beautiful parks – Alms Park and Ault Park. These parks have hiking trails, play grounds and picnic and picnic areas. Fairfax hosts several community events throughout the year including a family bowling tournament, youth dance, golf outing, concert in the park, softball tournament, a fall festival, children’s Halloween party and the annual holiday Light Up Fairfax.
