New Paris is a village with 1,600 residents. Historically, the region was the tribal grounds of the Pottawatomi, Miami and Wyandot Indians. Settlers arrived around 1806 with many coming from Paris, Kentucky. The Christmas tune, “Up on the Housetop” was written by Rev. Benjamin Hanby in 1864 in New Paris. Most of Preble County is farmland and the county is among the top 10 Ohio counties for hog and corn production.
There are homes of various sizes and price ranges in New Paris. Many homes are located on acreage.
State routes 121 and 320 bisect the township. Interstate I-70 is the closest major highway.
Mercy Health - Clermont Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Anderson and Eastgate are the closest medical facilities.
There are several local businesses in New Paris for daily needs. There are also a few restaurants in the village. One can drive to Richmond (Indiana) or Eaton for more shopping opportunities. The city of Dayton also offers more shopping malls.
New Paris celebrates with an annual Apple Fest in the fall. Residents also enjoy the Preble County Pork Festival in Eaton each September. Hueston Woods State Park is located southwest of Preble County and offers camping, hiking, golfing, fishing and boating. The Preble County Art Association is located in Eaton and offers crafts and fine arts classes.
