Mt. Auburn, OH Community Information
Introduction

Mt. Auburn was the hilltop retreat for the Cincinnati social elite during the 1800s and was the site of historic mansions with Federal, Greek Revival, Italian Villa, Romanesque Revival and Georgian Revial home styles. President William Howard Taft was born in Mt. Auburn.

As "restoration fever" spreads to communities convenient to the downtown area, Mt. Auburn is becoming increasingly popular. Over 7,000 residents call it home. Mt. Auburn's vibrant community council is active in improving the neighborhood. The Mt. Auburn Chamber of Commerce and Community Development Corporation also work on improving business leadership and housing development.

Summary

Much attention is being paid to this neighborhood distinguished by steep hills, winding streets, attractive home values and splendid views. Enterprising people can find a variety of old frame and brick houses. Some are large victorians with high ceilings and carved wood moldings; others are modest dwellings that offer tremendous design potential. Mt. Auburn has a heightened community spirit. Transportation

Mt. Auburn provides easy access to interstates 71 and 75. Driving time to downtown is approximately 5 minutes. Queen City Metro Bus service serves the area on a regular schedule.

Hospitals

Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital (located in Mt. Auburn), Good Samaritan Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 5-10-minute drive. Many uptown groups of doctor’s offices are also within easy access. One of the most advanced medical facilities in the country for research is located within the University Hospital complex in nearby Avondale.

Shopping

Two local shopping areas, University Plaza Shopping Center and University Village near Mt. Auburn, offer a variety of shops. Neighborhood shopping offers restaurants, banks, shoe stores, grocery stores, and drugstores just to name a few. Shopping in nearby Over-the-Rhine is only minutes away.

There are many restaurants located along E. McMillan Street near the University of Cincinnati. Or, head a few minutes south into Over-the-Rhine for even more local restaurant and pub options.

Mt. Auburn has its own Community Center, Auburn House, which has a variety of recreational facilities. Local parks include Inwood Park, Jackson Hill Park and Hopkins Park. Local clubs and organizations include Metropolitan Affairs Association, Mt. Auburn Community Council, Youth Council, Prospect Hill Association and others. The community hosts several events throughout the year.
