Located in the Millcreek Valley, Hartwell is one of Cincinnati's northern most neighborhoods within city limits with 4,500 residents.
Hartwell was settled in 1791 and grew with the completion of the Miami Canal that delivered goods to the area. It was known for its lush farmland that was owned by wealthy landowners. With the construction of the railway system, more people moved to Hartwell to live and work and it was incorporated with Cincinnati in 1912. Today, Hartwell offers its residents many home styles from modest cape cods, to Sears Kit and Craftsman-style homes, to larger Victorian residences.
Centrally located in Cincinnati, Hartwell has easy access to all directions of the city. Interstate 75 and Ronald Reagan Highway are minutes away to take one north, south, east or west. The city's bus service is available in this neighborhood with a route to downtown.
The Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care is located in Hartwell on Galbraith Road. Bethesda North Hospital – a Level III Trauma Center – is a 20-minute drive away, with well-used emergency room facilities. Jewish Hospital Kenwood is also located within 20 minutes drive time and is located in Sycamore Township. This hospital features a state-of-the-art patient tower as well as a 24-hour emergency department. It also offers the region’s only adult Blood & Marrow Transplant Center. Other Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, University Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 25-minute drive.
Kenwood Towne Centre is located within a 10-minute drive and offer hundreds of national retail stores including Nordstrom, Macy's and Dillard's. The heart of Hartwell also has smaller stores for every day needs. Glendale is a short drive way and offers boutique shopping opportunities.
Hartwell Recreation Center has a pool, fitness classes and space for group meetings. The Caldwell Nature Center and Sprayground offers 3.5 miles of trails as well as a small amphitheater, and a water spray area for children. The Hartwell Golf Club is available for all ages and there are several smaller playgrounds in the neighborhood. The Hamilton County Fairground is nearby to be enjoyed each summer. Centennial Barn offers yoga classes as well as massage therapy and personal growth classes.
