About an hour's drive from Cincinnati, Adams County is the image of small town America and chances are you will know everyone by name. Visit the prairies that once covered Ohio or wander through the shops of the Amish community.

Traverse the back roads to see the Adams County Barn Quilt Project, or visit a world-renowned site for jet engine testing at the General Electric Peebles Test Operation site. Adams County may be best known for Serpent Mound – the largest serpent effigy in the United States.

The Olde Wayside Inn which was built in 1804 is one of the oldest buildings in Adams County and is the oldest standing inn in Ohio that is still in use. Numerous important dignitaries stayed at this inn, including Kentucky Senator Henry Clay and President Andrew Jackson. The building has provided housing and food to travelers since its founding. New residents looking for the charm of small town life will find the pastoral charms of Adams County just may woo them to stay.

The Wheat Ridge Amish community has many shops, featuring bread, pies and other bakery items; lumber, millers and furniture; as well as other small businesses. Miller's Bakery & Furniture is a popular place to browse and buy.

Recreation

Adams Lake State Park is a 47-acre lake with beautiful, wooded surroundings. Bass fishing, boating, camping, biking and hiking are some of the fun activities. Ohio Brush Creek has fishing, boating and wildlife viewing.

"The Edge" (of the Appalachian Plateau) is a natural conservancy with forests and plains. Trails are provided for exploring. For those into ancient history, the Serpent Mound is the world's largest effigy mound in existence.

The Adams County Quilt Trail is the nation's first! See 20+ quilts painted on barns throughout the county. The Buckeye Trail has scenic backcountry roads and hiking trails.

The Wheat Ridge Festival is an annual October affair and celebrates the harvest season.
