The rushing White Water River provides slower paced water sport recreation, popular for canoeing and fishing.

Stock up before you head home as the nearest shopping areas are minutes away either to Brookville to the west, or east to Lawrenceburg and West Harrison.

Known in tourism circles as the gem of Indiana, Franklin County has attracted a large population fleeing the suburban crowds. Much of the population that moved here in the ‘90s commutes to nearby Cincinnati during the day and retreats to their slice of heaven on their time.  Life moves at a slower pace here with time to garden, fish or just relax. Housing styles include country farm homes, newer construction and traditional older homes.

Drewersburg

40 miles northwest of Cincinnati, Drewersburg is just 15 minutes off of Interstate 74. Drewersburg is sandwiched between US 52 and St. Rt. 252. Both the Hamilton Airport and Greater Cincinnati International Airport are within a 30-minute drive.

Just a few miles away Brookville Lake is the center of water sports, offering water recreation options including fishing, skiing, boating, swimming, canoeing, and more. The rushing Whitewater River keeps two canoe liveries active during the spring and summer season, and riders frequent the two horse stables for scenic back road jaunts. The lake was originally built for flood control in the Whitewater River valley, and now serves as a recreation destination for much of eastern Indiana.

You’ll need to hop in the car to do some nearby shopping. In town you’ll find still find two lumberyards, a building supply store, a feed mill, tavern and antique store, but nearby Lawrenceburg or Brookville can meet your shopping needs.

Times change and life has slowed down. Cedar Grove today still sits in scenic southeastern Franklin County along the Whitewater River. Amid the rolling hills, the country surrounding Cedar Grove is still 60% farmland. Just outside Cedar Grove is English Hill, one of the highest points in Indiana providing a nice view of the town. A small population of less than two hundred people means there’s plenty of room to spread out in this mostly rural relaxing area. Several of the historic buildings still stand and add charm to the community. Housing varies in size and style with space for large gardens and recreation.

Several city and county parks abound with playground equipment, ball fields and tennis courts. Local merchants and residents sponsor an annual 4th of July fireworks display at the reservoir dam which is spectacular. For golf enthusiasts, Brooke Hill Golf Course is the local favorite. North of town Buck's Point features lake-view relaxation.

Downtown provides a gamut of shopping opportunities, ranging from discount stores and pharmacies to family owned and operated grocery stores, and there is craft and antique shopping in nearby towns. The unique jewelry and gift shops on Main Street feature original 1881 showcases and architecture.

The country surrounding the city of Brookville is still 60% farmland, and Brookville is home to Indiana's largest lake, Brookville Lake. With over 5000 acres of swimming, boating, and fishing pleasures, the lake is set in 16 thousand acres of woodlands. The lake was originally built for flood control in the Whitewater River valley, and now serves as a recreation destination for much of eastern Indiana. Downtown Brookville thrives with small city charm as a hub of activity for Franklin County and the surrounding region. Dining, shopping and other entertainments keep pace with business and industry including Fortune 500 member Owens Corning. You're sure to find your style here; many of the existing homes showcase classic Italianate, Victorian and country farm houses. Further out of town new construction offers subdivision living amid the rolling hills of Franklin County.

Brookville

30 miles northwest of Cincinnati, Brookville is just 10 minutes off of Interstate 74. US 52 is the primary route through downtown. St. Rt. 101, and St. Rt. 1 offer access to all the town's charms. Franklin County Public Transportation offers convenient and economical transportation options for area residents.

Meandering along St. Rt. 252 through the rich flat tableland of eastern Franklin County, you come around a bend and discover Mount Carmel. You’ll see fine old brick farm houses built in the days and the architectural style of the early republic or federal style of building. Founded in 1832 and named for the Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church, it was the site of numerous factories including the famed Reed Factory used for looms for the wool and cotton mills throughout the area. Mount Carmel was the area’s hub with two general stores, two blacksmith shops, a butcher shop, and a harness shop. The first Women’s Club and the oldest literary club in the county, the M. Louisa Chitwood Club was renamed to honor the memory of the local poetess, known for her prolific four editions of her poems. Today Mount Carmel is primarily a farming and residential community.

Mt. Carmel

40 miles northwest of Cincinnati, Mount Carmel is just 15 minutes off of Interstate 74. Mount Carmel straddles St. Rt. 252. Mount Carmel boasts the only airplane landing strip in Franklin County. Both the Hamilton Airport and Greater Cincinnati International Airport are within a 30-minute drive.
