Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital (located in Mt. Auburn), Good Samaritan Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 5-10-minute drive. Many uptown groups of doctor’s offices are also within easy access. One of the most advanced medical facilities in the country for research is located within the University Hospital complex in nearby Avondale.

Mt. Auburn was the hilltop retreat for the Cincinnati social elite during the 1800s and was the site of historic mansions with Federal, Greek Revival, Italian Villa, Romanesque Revival and Georgian Revial home styles. President William Howard Taft was born in Mt. Auburn. 

As "restoration fever" spreads to communities convenient to the downtown area, Mt. Auburn is becoming increasingly popular. Over 7,000 residents call it home. Mt. Auburn's vibrant community council is active in improving the neighborhood. The Mt. Auburn Chamber of Commerce and Community Development Corporation also work on improving business leadership and housing development.

Cincinnati, OH

Good Samaritan Hospital is located in Clifton. The world-recognized Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a short drive away. Nearby Christ Hospital is located in Mt. Auburn. One of the most advanced medical facilities in the country for research is located within the (Cincinnati) University Hospital complex. Several more of Cincinnati’s fine hospitals are within a five to ten-minute drive. Many uptown groups of doctor’s offices are also within easy access.

Clifton was incorporated as a village in 1850 with the growth of Cincinnati suburbs and was annexed as part of Cincinnati in 1896. In the early 1900s, the University of Cincinnati and Hebrew Union College were established and the area gained great esteem as the intellectual center of Cincinnati. Today, Clifton is an “in-city suburb” and is a distinctive neighborhood with its cultural diversity. It is a great place to call home for those who enjoy daily city life in a suburban setting.

Burnet Woods with its lake, band stand, picnic areas and trailside museum is partly bounded by two of Clifton’s main streets. Out on the brow of a hill, affording a magnificent view west and north is Mt. Storm Park. Rawson Woods Bird Preserve has 10 acres and is located at Middleton and McAlpin Avenues. 

Clifton Meadows is a private club with ample facilities for swimming, tennis, baseball, shuffleboard and basketball. The handsome Clifton Recreation Center has a gym and the many separate facilities offer volleyball, handball and crafts to all. Golfers are a 15- minute drive to many private and public courses and tennis fans have easy access to many courts in the vicinity. In addition, University of Cincinnati offers many recreational activities to the whole city, many of which are free of charge. 

The Clifton Cultural Arts Center is located on Short Vine (with plans to build in Clifton in the future). The building houses art exhibits as well as classes for art, dance, music, foreign language and theater. A prominent landmark is the Esquire Theater on Ludlow Avenue. It was established in 1911 showing silent films and live acts. This movie house is now known for art films as well as first-run movies. It has been named a Best Movie Theater several times for the Cincinnati area. 

For those who enjoy the nightlife, the Brewery District in Over-the-Rhine is a short drive away, or one can stay in Clifton and enjoy music from the Ludlow Garage or head to Uptown Clifton to Bogart’s for a concert. Outdoor concerts are held at the Burnet Woods band stand and the Ludlow Plaza in the summer. 

For those who enjoy bicycling, there is a Cincy Red Bikes station on Howell Avenue.

Along Ludlow Avenue in the Gaslight Business District, many local shops and restaurants have been serving the community for many years including Graeter’s Ice Cream Shop and Skyline Chili, just to name a few. There are also quite a few local cafes, coffee houses, pharmacy, hardware store and other businesses. A short drive south to Corryville and there are even more restaurants and shops including an Amazon pickup store. Uptown Clifton also has many local shops and restaurants. Since Clifton is so centrally located, it is just a short trip downtown or to a nearby suburb satisfies any larger shopping needs. For those who enjoy local produce and meats, Findlay Market in Over-the-Rhine is a five-minute drive away. 

Head to Mecklenburg Gardens to enjoy a German meal and brew. It’s been in business since 1865. Adriatico’s on W. McMillan Street offers a thick-crust Sicilian-style pizza in a casual atmosphere. There are many more local restaurants to enjoy in the Clifton area. Ludlow is the hub or venture along W. McMillan for even more gastronomic options.

With old-fashioned gas lamps and wide tree-lined avenues, Clifton still reflect the elegance of yesteryear. Some of the mansions that once housed Cincinnati leaders have been restored to their original grandeur. In addition, a number of old, well preserved, brick and frame homes remain, adding to the historical flair of the neighborhood. Many homes are located on larger city lots offering a suburban-like lifestyle. Newer, brick-style homes are also available.

Clifton

Access to I-75 and I-74 is right off the western end of Clifton. This suburb is one of the most centrally located of all Cincinnati suburbs and has easy, quick access to anywhere in the city. Clifton is two miles from downtown Cincinnati and is served well by Cincinnati buses.

A few minutes to the northwest of Mt. Adams are the following hospitals: Children’s Hospital Medical Center, The Christ Hospital, University Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital.

There’s nothing in Cincinnati quite like the hilltop excitement of Mt. Adams. Down the steep, winding streets of this community are many fashionable stores, restaurants and chic “watering holes".

Mt. Adams has its own Community Center which offers a variety of activities. Some local clubs and organizations include the Mt. Adams Civic Association and the Cincinnati Art Club, which is by membership. The Mt. Adams Pool is located behind Playhouse in the Park. Mt. Adams hosts several yearly community events: Mt. Adams French Wine Festival, Mt. Adams Art Walk, Halloween on The Hill, Reindog Parade and the Mt. Adams Luminaria. 

Residents can easily walk (or drive) to enjoy the arts. Playhouse in the Park offers live performances throughout the year. The Cincinnati Art Museum is close by and has a treasure trove of 67,000 works of art including paintings and sculpture. There are many events hosted at the museum as well.  The scenic Seasongood Pavilion features live music performances at its covered stage. 

Eden Park is the location for Krohn Conservatory and is a popular place with its Mirror Lake, Ohio River views and walking paths. Theodore M. Berry Friendship Park is located nearby – just head down the steps to 1101 Eastern Avenue. This park has an International Plaza, pavilion, commissioned sculptures, sitting wall and bike trail.

There are many convenient neighborhood shops throughout the Mt. Adams area including small grocery stores, dress shops and boutiques. Downtown shopping is only five-minutes away. Mt. Adams also offers a wide variety of restaurants and bars. The Blind Lemon is historic to Mt. Adams and features live music. Mt. Adams Pavilion is another iconic place for a drink – and its back deck offers incredible views.

A lively village atmosphere is one of the factors that attract so many people. Residents feel “the hill” offers them a unique kind of urban life and for that reason there is a deep sense of community pride.Most of the box-like brick and frame homes, constructed firmly into the hillside, have been beautifully renovated. The addition of new sidewalks, new street lights and new trees gives a stylish look to the area.With breathtaking river and city views and the downtown cultural activities just five minutes away, Mt. Adams has gained a reputation for being a highly desirable place to live and watch the nationally famous fireworks display on the Ohio River on Labor Day.

Mt. Adams

Mt. Adams provides quick access to Interstate 71. Driving time to downtown is approximately 5 minutes. Queen City Metro buses serve the area on convenient schedules.

Children’s Hospital Medical Center operates the Hopple Street Neighborhood Health Center on the corner Beekman Avenue and Hopple Street offering pediatric care. Mercy Health West Hospital  is within 10 minutes of the area. All other Cincinnati hospitals are 20 minutes away. The area is also convenient to the Western Hills Medical Center. Other Cincinnati hospitals including The University Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, The Christ Hospital and Children’s Hospital Medical Center are within 5-10 minutes.

Located just six miles from downtown Cincinnati, Camp Washington was the site of muster and drill grounds of the first and second regiments of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. The “Camp” was also the location of the first Ohio State Fair. 

 Camp Washington is a manufacturing area and has been the location for over 150 businesses including the Hillshire Farm & Kahn’s Company, Andrew Jergens Company (now KAO Brands), Queen City Sausage, Meyer Tool and Osborne Coinage. It is also home to 1,763 residents who enjoy living in the “Camp”.

Visit the American Sign Museum to gaze at signs created in bygone years. Large and small, these signs were used to advertise local businesses. Or, head over to the Wave Pool: A Contemporary Art Fulfillment Center with rotating modern art exhibits. 

Camp Washington Urban Farm raises livestock and grows vegetables for food the city’s food pantries. 

Camp Washington has an outdoor pool and basketball court. Valley Park features play apparatus and swings.

Camp Washington Chili is an iconic local restaurant (featured on the Man vs Food television show) and has been serving breakfast, lunch and dinner since 1940. Other local restaurants include Steak and Lemonade and U.S .Chili. Into theater? The Schnez Theatrical Supply company has been providing costumes for local productions since 1965. 

There are a few local places (such as Northside Hardware) to shop for minor needs, but it is best to head into Price Hill or Western Hills for major shopping. Price Hill has local grocers and butchers to frequent as well as miles of retail outlets on Warsaw and Glenway Avenues, including a “super store” branch of a major grocery chain. It is 15 minutes to the Western Hills-Western Woods Shopping complex and Glenway Crossing comprised of some 70 shops, 3 department store branches and branch banking facilities. There is also easy access to Delhi Pike and the excellent shopping facilities offered there. 

Or, head eastward into Clifton – which is seven minutes away by car – for local shops and restaurants.

The community is a great place for affordable living. There are older, 19th-century homes – many which have been rehabbed and updated – nestled among industrial spaces. The community has several organizations to keep its vibrancy and growth headed towards the future: The Camp Washington Community Board specializes in saving and rehabbing homes. Camp Washington Community Council is the forum for residents to share ideas and the Camp Washington Business Association is the group where local businesses network and advocate for the community.

Camp Washington is just seconds from Interstate 75 and is a less than 10 minute drive to downtown Cincinnati. Queen City Metro services Camp Washington seven days a week to and from the downtown area with express service during peak periods.

Mt. Auburn has its own Community Center, Auburn House, which has a variety of recreational facilities. Local parks include Inwood Park, Jackson Hill Park and Hopkins Park. Local clubs and organizations include Metropolitan Affairs Association, Mt. Auburn Community Council, Youth Council, Prospect Hill Association and others. The community hosts several events throughout the year.

Two local shopping areas, University Plaza Shopping Center and University Village near Mt. Auburn, offer a variety of shops. Neighborhood shopping offers restaurants, banks, shoe stores, grocery stores, and drugstores just to name a few. Shopping in nearby Over-the-Rhine is only minutes away. 

There are many restaurants located along E. McMillan Street near the University of Cincinnati. Or, head a few minutes south into Over-the-Rhine for even more local restaurant and pub options.

Much attention is being paid to this neighborhood distinguished by steep hills, winding streets, attractive home values and splendid views. Enterprising people can find a variety of old frame and brick houses. Some are large Victorians with high ceilings and carved wood moldings; others are modest dwellings that offer tremendous design potential. Mt. Auburn has a heightened community spirit. The combined efforts of the residents, business people and neighborhood organizations make living here a delightful experience.
