Southeastern Indiana

Oxford is served by the McCullough-Hyde Memorial TriHealth Hospital, located in the heart of Oxford. In nearby Hamilton, Fort Hamilton Hospital, TriHealth Bethesda Butler Hospital and Mercy Health - Fairfield (the only hospital in Butler County to offer open heart surgery) serve the area. Children’s Hospital Medical Center Liberty Campus is located in Liberty Township.

Oxford began as a planned village in the early 1800’s when Miami University was formed through an act of the Ohio Legislature in the Northwest Territory. The McGuffey Museum is registered as a National Historic Landmark and honors the significance of William Holmes McGuffey, author of the famed McGuffey Eclectic Readers.

Miami University’s campus offers a wide range of cultural and athletic events. Sports enthusiasts have several options for recreation, including Division I basketball, ice hockey and football. 

The Oxford Community Park blends sports fields, walking and bike paths and natural areas on over 113 acres. The city has several other parks including Leonard Howell Park, Merry Day Park, Robert M. Artz Park and Northside Bark (a gated canine park). There are several baseball and soccer fields. 

Hueston Woods State Park is less than five minutes away. It offers miles of scenic hiking trails, fishing and boating on 625 acre Acton Lake. The park features an 18-hole golf course, naturalist programs; and nature center with a display of live animals. Nearby Brookville Lake is available for fishing and boating. 

The TRI Community Center features an indoor and outdoor basketball court, tennis courts, baseball diamond, picnic shelter and two weight rooms. The Oxford Senior Citizens and Community Center offers its facilities for private social gatherings to Oxford residents. A new Oxford Aquatic Center is in the design stages. 

The Oxford Community Arts Center features a diverse arrangement of arts programs and exhibits from play performances to drawing sessions to music and art.

The historic Uptown District of Oxford hosts several unique restaurants and eclectic shops. Oxford's cobblestone lined High Street is home to shops and eateries that appeal to students and residents alike serving basic needs like clothing and shoes, gifts, accessories and art. Northgate Mall is located 20 minutes south in Colerain Township.

For such a small town, Oxford is rich in history and has become the center for culture and intellectual pursuits in the area. A scenic 35-mile drive northwest of Cincinnati and 45 miles southwest of Dayton in Butler County, 22,000 residents fill the nearly six square mile city radius. Nestled among the trees in the rolling hills of southwestern Ohio, historic Oxford offers picturesque neighborhoods, an uptown shopping district loaded with character and a congenial mix of residents and students. The town offers abundant open space in both the city and nearby communities. Miami University is rated among the top national universities and has its main campus in Oxford with 14,000 students. Today, the tree-lined streets and sprawling campus walkways are part of Oxford’s special appeal to residents, students and visitors.

Oxford is five miles east of the Indiana Border. Rt. 27 runs directly through the heart of Oxford. St. Rts. 73 and 732 also serve the area. I-275, the circle freeway around Cincinnati is approximately 20 minutes south of Oxford.

Liberty Fire and EMS serve the city. Hospital services are found at the McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital located in Oxford or Fayette Regional Health Care hospital in Connersville.

Liberty was the home of Bob Jenkins, the radio voice of the Indy 500.

Wide-open spaces allow Union County residents the space to tackle any outdoor pursuits with boating at the top of the list.  Quakertown Recreational Area, and Whitewater State Memorial Park’s 200-acre lake offers access to the 5200-acre Brookville Lake as the primary spot for recreational boating in the region. Hueston Woods State Park, less than 20 minutes away, offers miles of scenic hiking trails, fishing and boating, an 18 hole golf course, naturalist programs, a nature center with a display of live animals and much more. The Union County Speedway offers racing through the summer months for car enthusiasts. Golf enthusiasts use either Buck Point or Liberty Country Club. Miami University's campus in nearly Oxford offers a wide range of cultural, educational and athletic events too numerous to mention.

Liberty meets all your daily shopping needs. Be sure to stop by Bertch’s Do It Best Hardware store which has been in operation since 1866. For a more extensive shopping trip, you’ll need to head either to Connorsville, or south into Northern Cincinnati’s Northgate Mall.

Liberty is the star attraction as the county seat of Union County, Indiana  located about 41 miles northwest of Cincinnati. The town itself is less than a mile wide but its packed full of everything county residents need from banks, to hardware and insurance companies. Just over 2000 residents call Liberty home, ensuring that there’s plenty of room to call your own. This is primarily a farming community, and Liberty is where social, political and entertainment needs are met. Housing ranges from farmhouses to turn of the century construction.

Liberty sits at the intersection of US 27 and St. Rt. 44.

McCullough Hyde Regional Medical Center on St. Rt. 101 provides diagnostic and treatment services. Rush Memorial Hospital in nearby Rushville, Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville, Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg and Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville are the closest community hospitals. Hospitals in Cincinnati are an hour drive away.

Brookville Lake is the center of water sports, offering water recreation options including fishing, skiing, boating, swimming, canoeing, and more. The rushing White Water River keeps two canoe liveries active during the spring and summer season, and riders frequent the two horse stables for scenic back road jaunts. Several city and county parks abound with playground equipment, ball fields and tennis courts. Local merchants and residents sponsor an annual 4th of July fireworks display at the reservoir dam which is spectacular. For golf enthusiasts, Brooke Hill Golf Course is the local favorite. North of town Buck's Point features lake-view relaxation.

Downtown provides a gamut of shopping opportunities, ranging from discount stores and pharmacies to family owned and operated grocery stores, and there is craft and antique shopping in nearby towns. The unique jewelry and gift shops on Main Street feature original 1881 showcases and architecture.

The country surrounding the city of Brookville is still 60% farmland, and Brookville is home to Indiana's largest lake, Brookville Lake. With over 5000 acres of swimming, boating, and fishing pleasures, the lake is set in 16 thousand acres of woodlands. The lake was originally built for flood control in the Whitewater River valley, and now serves as a recreation destination for much of eastern Indiana. Downtown Brookville thrives with small city charm as a hub of activity for Franklin County and the surrounding region. Dining, shopping and other entertainments keep pace with business and industry including Fortune 500 member Owens Corning. You're sure to find your style here; many of the existing homes showcase classic Italianate, Victorian and country farm houses. Further out of town new construction offers subdivision living amid the rolling hills of Franklin County.

Brookville

30 miles northwest of Cincinnati, Brookville is just 10 minutes off of Interstate 74. US 52 is the primary route through downtown. St. Rt. 101, and St. Rt. 1 offer access to all the town's charms. Franklin County Public Transportation offers convenient and economical transportation options for area residents.

There’s plenty to do in Connersville both indoors and out. Connersville is a stop on the Whitewater Valley Railroad, Indiana's longest scenic railroad and museum.  A busy community center, several playgrounds and parks, a teen skate park and pool make for an active recreation area. Birders will enjoy the Mary Grady Bird Sanctuary; hikers will enjoy the Schraeder Weaver Nature Preserve.Golfers find their way to the Connersville Country Club, and history buffs can check out the Canal House and History Museum on the National Register of Historic Places. Boaters of course will find their way to nearby Brookville Lake, southern Indiana’s recreation destination.

Residents from several nearby communities come to Connersville for shopping, but larger purchases may require a trip into Cincinnati or Indianapolis.

Just as you cross into Fayette County in southeastern Indiana’s scenic Whitewater Valley, you’ll enter Connersville, the county seat. 15,400 residents make this one of southern Indiana’s biggest cities, although at 8 miles wide you can’t get lost. Residents claim Connersville is a small town with a big heart and heritage and its warm and inviting city invites you to linger awhile. It’s named for settler and fur trader John Conner.

Connersville is located at the intersection of Indiana Rt. 1 and Rt. 44. Amtrak trains provides service to Connersville enroute to either Chicago or Cincinnati.
