Summary
With a population over 25,000, Xenia is located approximately 30 minutes east of downtown Dayton. Xenia is a friendly town, and known for its hospitality. It's a tenacious community finding strength in adversity. A tornado April 3, 1974 killed 33, destroyed almost half of the city's buildings and made 10,000 homeless. Nine schools, nine churches and 180 businesses perished but the city still had the courage to bounce back and make Xenia what it is today. Shawnee Park is the site of concerts, picnics, festivals, quiet walks, even fishing. For golf enthusiasts, there are two public courses in Xenia, Sebastian Hills Golf Club and WGC Golf Course. Sugar Valley Country Club is also located in Xenia. Popular biking and hiking trails through Xenia include the recently completed 10-mile portion of the North Country National Scenic Trail between Xenia and Yellow Springs. The Little Miami Scenic Trail takes you by the Spring Valley wildlife area, one of the best bird watching spots in Ohio. Xenia was named "Trail Town USA" by the American Hiking Association.
