Cold Spring acquired its name from a fresh, cold water spring that still flows underground. There are 5,900 residents. Rumor is that Daniel Boone had 500 acres in the area in return for his service in the Revolutionary War. He sold the land in 1785. The area was then settled around 1789.
There are several public parks to enjoy in Cold Spring: The "Municipal Park" has a picnic grove, ball field, playground, volleyball and horseshoe courts. "Friendship Park" has several ball and soccer fields, playground, picnic area, volleyball, basketball and horseshoe courts as well as walking and nature trails. "Apple Orchard Park" has walking trails, a play area and a picnic area. "Patriotic Park" has a picnic shelter, play area and a basketball court." Sunshine Park" also features a play area and a picnic shelter.
The community hosts events throughout the year, with many of them occurring at the Municipal Park.
