Summary
Residents argue over who has the best view of the Cincinnati skyline, but all Northern Kentucky residents will tell you it’s them. The northernmost sections of the three river-hugging counties of Northern Kentucky are all hustle and bustle. The southern areas reflect their southern roots with slower paces and a more rural atmosphere. Numerous neighborhoods and villages abound in the highly urbanized areas closest to the river; many people have lived there for generations. The southern regions find both family farms and Kentucky’s legendary horse farms sprawling along the wide-open spaces.
Transportation
With four major interstate highways serving the area (I-71, I-75, I-275 and I471), and the AA Highway, the arteries feeding the Northern Kentucky region are key to the region’s growth. TANK provides bus services throughout the northern most counties and crossing the river into Cincinnati. Greyhound Bus Services many midwestern cities from its downtown location. Amtrak offers speedy train service north and east from its base at the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. The lifeline to international travel, the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport operates as a Delta hub, is not only a key economic influence in the area but the destination for many of the region’s travel.
Hospitals
Two large hospital systems, St. Elizabeth North and South, and St. Luke East and West, dominate the hospital services in the area. Several specialty hospitals offer additional medical care. Just across the river in Cincinnati, The University of Cincinnati Medical Complex along with Children’s Hospital Medical Center are ranked nationally for their quality of care.
Shopping
World-class shopping can be found just across the river in the heart of Cincinnati, but the Northern Kentucky region abounds with numerous high-class shopping destinations at regional malls surrounding the area.
