About Wilder
Introduction
Wilder, a smaller, contiguous, primarily residential city in Campbell County, is just off I-471 and I-275. It is located about two miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio. The area was incorporated in 1935 by mostly employees of the Andrews Streel Company. The city now has 3,000 residents.
Summary
Wilder was the first settlement in Campbell County. Once known as Leitch’s Station, Wilder was named after Covington doctor, William Hamlin Wilder. The city’s Licking River frontage is home to the Northern Kentucky Port Authority.
Wilder’s recent growth has been due to the popularity of condominium communities as well as upscale single family homes with Cincinnati skyline views. One finds homes of all sizes, prices and styles in the area.
Transportation
TANK provides the public transportation to and from the area. US 27 and I-471 connect Wilder with Cincinnati and surrounding cities. It is a short drive to the Greater Cincinniat/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Hospitals
St. Elizabeth East in Fort Thomas is available. There is quick access to the Cincinnati hospitals.
Shopping
Wilder has a number of restaurants and stores. Shopping malls are found in Newport and surrounding cities. Bobby Mackey’s Music World aka “the most haunted nightclub in America” is located in Wilder.
Recreation
Boating is enjoyed on the Licking River. Fishing is available in a private lake and the river.
The "Licking River Greenway and Trails" connect Wilder, Covington, Taylor Mill, and Newport, Kentucky – and when completed will span about 14 miles. The trail connects the City Building to Frederick’s Landing and will continue along Route 9 to the Maxim Property. "Fredericks Landing Park" has boat ramp access to the Licking River. "Veteran’s Memorial Park" features a memorial area as well as a picnic shelter.
The city hosts several events throughout the year: Bluegrass Festival and Flag-Raising ceremony and community Labor Day picnic in September; KidsFest in June; and a tree-lighting ceremony and Santa-on-a-firetruck in December. Wilder also has an annual Christmas Home Decorating Contest.
