Bromley residents occasionally refer to the city as Dixie, or Crescent Park. Charles Collins, an 1848 landowner, named the city. Collins acquired most of the 2,000 acres and bought the historic property called the Landmark residence. As a historic home, it’s the oldest dwelling in Kenton County. He laid out the first city streets and named the city Bromley after his hometown in England. Most of Bromley’s streets are named in honor of early Kentucky pioneers and politicians.
Bromley sits squarely on the Ohio River in north central Kenton County. With a small population of just over 800, it’s one of Northern Kentucky’s smaller communities, just five short miles to downtown Cincinnati. Residents here, within minutes of all that downtown Cincinnati has to offer, enjoy a small, tight-knit riverfront community supportive of the volunteer fire department.
Less than five minutes from downtown Cincinnati off easily accessible I-75, it’s easy to get around in Bellevue. Meandering Kentucky Rt. 8 (Pike Street) bisects the city, linking it to Ludlow on the east and Villa Hills on its western border. St. Rt. 1072 and Bromley Crescent Springs Rd offer easy access to the city. The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) provides bus service through the region, and into downtown Cincinnati. Greater Cincinnati International Airport is a close 14 miles.
Several Northern Kentucky hospitals and their branches, St. Elizabeth and St. Elizabeth, are within a few minutes driving. The Bromley Volunteer Fire provides EMS service to the area.
Most residents patronize other Kenton County communities of Covington, Villa Hills, Ft. Mitchell or Crescent Springs to do their daily shopping. Downtown Cincinnati and several local shopping malls offer more extensive shopping within a 15-minute drive.
Riverfront access allows boaters and fishing enthusiasts easy access to the Ohio River. Numerous festivals and outdoor events each summer weekend provide an endless supply of outdoor activities in nearby Cincinnati, Covington and Newport riverfronts. Devou Park, in Bromley’s backyard, offers scenic bike/hiking trails, fishing lake, golf course and entertainment facilities, along with arguably one of the best vistas of the downtown Cincinnati skyline. The Bromley City Park offers a playground and ball fields for residents.
