The village of Greenfield is located mostly in Highland County, but is also a part of Fayette and Ross Counties. Its population numbers 4,600 residents. Greenfield is known for its community members who assisted in the underground railroad, helping people pass through to Canada. Most of the founding residents of the area settled in Greenfield because they were against slavery.

Greenfield was founded in 1799 by General Duncan McArthur. Its name comes from its rural appearance. The American Pad and Textile Company is located in the village and created products such as the life vest used in Word Ward II. In the center of the village is the McClain High School which was the first Ohio school to have an indoor swimming pool. The first African American owned car company, The Patterson Car Company, was founded in Greenfield. Home is Greenfield include older farm houses on acreage as well as newer homes with land.
Greenfield is located along 28 and 138. The closest state route is SR 35. I-71 is the closet interstate highway.
Adena Greenfield Medical Center is located in Greenfield. Highland District Hospital is located in Hillsboro. Adena Medical Center is located in Chillicothe. Fayette County Memorial Hospital is located in Washington Court House.
Greenfield has a few locals shops and restaurants along 28. One can drive to Hillsboro, Washington Courthouse or Chillicothe for more shopping and dining opportunities.
Paint Creek State Park is located in Bainbridge and offers a large lake for fishing, boating and swimming. A campground and trails are available for outdoor enthusiasts.
