Centerville has the largest collection of early stone houses in the state of Ohio, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was founded in 1796 and is one of the oldest communities in Ohio. The heart of the city is designated as an architectural preservation district to maintain the historic heritage.

Eight miles southeast of Dayton straddling the county line between Montgomery and Greene Counties, Centerville is a busy suburban hub of shopping, business and recreation. Centerville is a scenic community with 43 parks and more than 900 acres. Golfers hit the course at the 27-hole championship level golf course at Yankee Trace Golf Club. The Washington Township Recreation Center has 50,000 square feet and includes two indoor swimming pools.
