New Paris

New Paris is a village with 1,600 residents. Historically, the region was the tribal grounds of the Pottawatomi, Miami and Wyandot Indians. Settlers arrived around 1806 with many coming from Paris, Kentucky. The Christmas tune, “Up on the Housetop” was written by Rev. Benjamin Hanby in 1864 in New Paris. Most of Preble County is farmland and the county is among the top 10 Ohio counties for hog and corn production.

Hueston Woods State Park is located southwest of Preble County and offers camping, hiking, golfing, fishing and boating. The Preble County Art Association is located in Eaton and offers crafts and fine arts classes.
