The Octagon House: an iconic local landmark home now available for sale for the first time in 35 years, when it was essentially rebuilt from the ground up. More recently, in the 1990s, a 400-SF fully-equipped efficiency apartment was added above the garage, and in 2016 a 17' x 14' pool house with an in-ground Endless Pool was added. County square footage does not include the apartment, the measurements for which--for the purposes of this listing--are identified as "Quad/4th Level." Extremely thoughtful and symmetrical, versatile floor plan, landscaping, & brickwork, including french drains. Slate entry & hearths. 4 porches: wraparound veranda, screened back porch leading to the pool house, and back kitchen service porch with walk-out "Rapunzel Balcony" above. Lots of custom built-ins & stained glass. All new roof & gutters in 2015. Truly a premier property, in a prime location within 2 blocks of downtown Yellow Springs, near the public library, the College, the Bikepath, & the Glen.

Directions to this Listing: Xenia Avenue (US Route 68) to West Whiteman to #111. Within two blocks of downtown Yellow Springs.

Lifestyle in Yellow Springs, OH
Yellow Springs

Discovered around 1800, Yellow Springs became a major Midwestern attraction for those seeking its 'curative' waters. For over 100 years the town was a popular health resort serving travelers on the stagecoach road nearby.

Summary
While the spring which gives the town its name still exists, this small Greene County city approximately 40 miles east of downtown Dayton is known today for its recreational attractions, wonderful shops and restaurants, and culturally diverse Antioch College where a wide range of political and social views are well represented. 4,000 residents live in charming turn of the century homes, converted farmhouses, and modest bungalows. For an escape from hectic urban life, look to Yellow Springs for a change in lifestyle.

The Glen Helen Nature Preserve offers 1000 acres of waterfalls, limestone cliffs, woods and the famous Yellow Spring. The John Bryant State Park is located minutes outside the city, along the Little Miami River. Its more than 700 acres are used by residents for camping, picnics and hiking. Close-by is Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve where hikers climb through ancient rock formations. Craft fairs, street festivals and other community events abound in Yellow Springs. The town has a seasonal community swimming pool, a chamber music series, several art galleries and an art-film theatre. A working dairy farm and frequent tourist destination, Young's Dairy Farm not only has milk straight from the cow, but a petting zoo, miniature golf and full deli and ice cream shop.
