Leesburg’s nickname is the “Friendly Village in Fairfield Township”.
Founded in 1802, Leesburg is the oldest town in Fairfield Township. The earliest village settlers were Quakers known now as members of the Society of Friends. Leesburg was known in its early days for its wool and flour mills. It was once a busy train stop on one of the many scenic by-ways to be discovered in Southern Ohio. Today Leesburg is a village of about 1250 people.
Located at the Intersection of St. Rt. 28 and St. Rt. 62, the village is about 20 miles from Interstate 71. Leesburg is approximately an hour drive from Columbus and Dayton; a trip to Cincinnati takes about 65 minutes. Highland County Airport is 6 miles outside of nearby Hillsboro; Holister Field in Wilmington is a 20-minute drive.
The Highland North Joint Fire District provides EMS service to the village. The Highland District Hospital in nearby Hillsboro provides emergency and obstetric services along with inpatient and outpatient care. Residents can also easily access the Greenfield Area Medical Center in Greenfield.
Just about all your shopping needs can be met in nearby Hillsboro or Wilmington, just a short drive away. Antique lovers, though, will want to drop in to one of Leesburg’s charming antique and gift shops that are popular destinations for the regions nostalgia lovers.
Leesburg sits within easy access of Highland County’s abundant outdoor recreational sites. Rich in natural resources, Highland County is an excellent choice to enjoy outdoor activities. Fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, water sports, and golfing are just a few of the possibilities awaiting you. Two world-class state parks, Rocky Fork and Paint Creek, offer a variety of ways to enjoy the beautiful hills of Highland County.
