Introduction

The Village of Blanchester was settled by Joseph and John Blancett in 1832. The community is 7.6 square miles with 4,000 residents. Clarence “Bud” Brown who served in the US House of Representatives and as a Secretary of Commerce in the 1980s is from this community.

Summary

“A small town with a big” heart, Blanchester is a community of homes in a wide variety of price ranges and home styles. One finds older homes as well as newly constructed residences. The village is located along the Warren/Clinton County line. It is Clinton County’s second largest village. Fertile and flat could be the nickname for the farmland that surrounds the village, with livestock and farming the primary occupations. The historic downtown houses the shopping, restaurants and activities that are the destination for Clinton’s southwestern residents. An active Chamber of Commerce sponsors community events throughout the year including an annual Fourth of July celebration.

Transportation

51 miles northeast of Cincinnati, Blanchester’s primary transportation routes are St. Rt. 28, and 133. Nearby commuter airports are Red Stewart Airfield in Waynesville 17 miles away, Clinton Field in Wilmington 19 miles away, and Cincinnati Lunken Airport. Greater Cincinnati International Airport is just an hour away.

Hospitals

The Blanchester/Marion Twp. Joint Fire District serves the village and surrounding region. The nearest hospitals are Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington 16 miles away, or Clermont Mercy 19 miles away in Batavia provide emergency, obstetrics and both inpatient and outpatient care. Cincinnati’s main hospitals including Christ, Good Samaritan, Children’s Hospital Medical Center and University hospitals are within 45-60 minutes by car.

Shopping

Blanchester is the destination for shoppers in the southern half of the county. Collectors and antique hunters come to browse both at the antique malls and shops spread through the historic downtown. Several groceries and hardware stores meet the needs of homeowners; for a major shopping mall you’ll have to jump in the car for a drive either to Wilmington, or Eastgate Mall. Connoisseurs find their way to Bellavance Organic Farm known regionally for its organically grown food and flowers.

Recreation

Just over 1000 acres, nearby Cowan Lake State Park offers a peaceful setting replete with scenic inlets laden with the American Lotus water lily. Swimming, fishing, sailing and canoeing are popular on the lake and draw recreation lovers from the entire county. Hiking trails encourages wandering through the park’s mature woodlands. The park offers some of the finest fossil hunting areas in the world because of its location near the Cincinnati Arch, an uplifting of bedrock that occurred during the Appalachian Mountains' building process. Hikers and birders will enjoy the white swamp forest at the Culberson State Nature Preserve nearby. There are many youth-oriented sports programs through the local school system available for baseball, football, soccer, tennis, basketball, to name a few.
