Originally viewed as a place where Cincinnatians could retreat from the busy city, Northside is now a neighborhood rich with culture, community and entertainment within minutes of downtown. With a mix of classic homes and a vibrant business district, Northside offers its residents and visitors a full range of experiences in a urban-village setting. One finds older homes that have been carefully rehabbed and updated as well as newer ones. From classic home styles to the eclectic, there are homes that meet many tastes. The Cincinnati Northside Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation works hard to provide new affordable homes and improvements to keep Northside vibrant and growing.

Northside is conveniently located within five minutes of downtown, I-71, I-75, and I-74, and only 15 minutes from I-275. Northside has the second-largest hub in the Metro bus system and it is just a 30-minute ride to downtown. For those who cycle, it is a 35-minute bike ride to downtown Cincinnati.

Mercy Health West Hospital is a 15-minute drive westward. All other Cincinnati hospitals are approximately 10-15 minutes away to the east, including The Christ Hospital, University Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Northside offers over 50 restaurants, cafés, bars, boutiques and other shopping opportunities in just over two square miles. Many Northside businesses are independently-owned, creating unique and diverse dining and shopping experiences while maintaining a strong sense of community. From vintage clothing, tattoo parlors to organic groceries, Northside has it all. If you are interested in art, Northside has many galleries to browse through and enjoy. “Second Saturdays” in Northside are perfect times to shop and eat with many businesses offering longer retail hours and special events. During the warmer months, fresh produce is available at the Northside Farmers Market at Hoffner Park. In winter, the market is open from a local church on Wednesday evenings.

Northside offers over 250 acres of park space within town. Mt. Airy Forest, the largest park in Cincinnati’s park system, lies just west of Northside. Other parks include the Northside Children’s Playground, Jergens Park, Hoffner Park, Parker Woods, Buttercup Valley, Badgley Run Park and Bradford-Felter Tanglewood.

The McKie Recreation Center on Chase Avenue offers a fitness center, 6,000 square foot air-conditioned gymnasium, computer lab, and swimming pool. The Northside Branch of the Cincinnati Public Library is located on Hamilton Avenue.

Bike sharing is important to its residents and the community has a volunteer co-op program (MoBo) for cyclists.

Northside is known for hosting a very hip Fourth of July Parade every summer. The Northside Rock and Roll Carnival is also well attended. Northsiders enjoy an annual yard sale in August. For those with a green thumb, the Gardens at Village Green on Knowlton Street is a community garden with 33 plots. The Northside Community Council and Northside Business Association are very active in making sure residents have plenty of activities to enjoy throughout the year.
