Incorporated in 1833, Middletown is home to approximately 50,000 people living within its corporate limits and another 50,000 in the surrounding area. Located conveniently between Cincinnati and Dayton on the Great Miami River, Middletown boasts a wealth of history, culture, and natural splendor. Middletown is located in Butler County on I-75 midway between Cincinnati and Dayton. Hook Field is a small municipal airport and is used for general aviation. Air travelers use either the Dayton International Airport or the Greater Cincinnati International Airport.

Kettering Medical Center - Middletown is located on SR 122 southeast of I-75 and provides 24/7 emergency care as well as other medical services. Atrium Hospital and a branch of Dayton’s Children’s Hospital are located off of I-75. In nearby Hamilton, Fort Hamilton Hospital, TriHealth Bethesda Butler Hospital and Mercy Health - Fairfield (the only hospital in Butler County to offer open heart surgery) serve area residents.

Historic South Main Street offers eclectic shopping opportunities in a scenic downtown with many events planned throughout the year. From an old-fashioned ice cream social to a cruise-in, to an Italian fest, residents enjoy supporting downtown businesses and its sense of an urban community. There are some popular eateries and pubs to enjoy there. Numerous strip malls, both chains and fast food restaurants line the highway access to the downtown. Local merchants fill the needs of residents with convenient shopping in many neighborhoods. For the bargain enthusiast, Cincinnati Premium Outlet, with over 100 stores, is a short drive away. For those who love donuts, Middletown is part of the Butler County Donut Trail with two places to find such a treat: Milton's Donuts and Central Pastry Shop.

There are 27 parks throughout the city for casual enjoyment, sports and recreation. The Meadow Ridge area of Elk Creek MetroPark has miles of trails to walk and enjoy. River Center at Bicentennial Commons is a great place to rest along the Great Miami River Trail. Smith Park features 96 acres as well as baseball diamonds, fishing pond, a skatepark, trails and picnic areas. Armco Park in Turtlecreek Township (Lebanon) features 311 acres with softball fields, a fishing and boating lake, picnic areas as well as an 18-hole golf course. Middletown’s history can be easily viewed by visiting the Canal Museum. Publications, relics and an extensive collection of artistic illustrations trace the cultural and economic growth of Middletown. An artist and lecture series is sponsored and held at the Miami University Middletown Campus. Residents enjoy even more arts at the Middletown Fine Arts Center, Sorg Opera Company and Middletown Lyric Theatre. The Pendleton Arts Center in Middletown offers art exhibits and events throughout the year. The Middletown Cincinnati State’s campus provides a learning environment for students as well as a Workforce Development Center for customized job training services and programs for the public.

There are several festivals to enjoy every year: The Ohio Challenge Balloon Festival (hot air balloons) is held in July. Light Up Middletown (a drive-through light display) is scheduled in December. The Middletown Arts Festival host community events from May through September with exhibits, workshops and other events.
