Mariemont was first settled in 1788 and was called Columbia in honor of Christopher Columbus. The village was later named after its founder, Mary Emery, who had in mind to create a model town. Mariemont was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2007.
The winding lanes with Georgian, Tudor and colonial style houses create an atmosphere of an old English village.
Other Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, University Hospital (known for its advanced medical research) and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 20-minute drive.
The village has a tower with Carillon Bells. Weekly concerts are held on Sundays.
There is a summer play school for pre-schoolers and a supervised playground for school-age children, teaching them games and handicraft. Free swimming lessons are given and swim teams are organized to compete in meets throughout the summer. The Mariemont Swim Club, consisting of a regular pool, one for swimming lengths and kiddie pool, is unique in that any resident of Mariemont is automatically a member by paying a nominal yearly fee. T-ball, Knothole, and other baseball teams are offered for all ages including adults. There are softball teams for girls depending on the demand. Soccer has also become very popular with teams for boys and girls. The Parish Center affords a wide selection of year-round activities, especially for youths. For the mature citizens of Mariemont, The Marielders Center is open each weekday from 9 to 5.
