Native American Hopewell and Adena tribes roamed this area; evidence of this can be found in burial sites and mounds throughout the area but primarily on private land.
Located 11 miles northeast of Wilmington, the village of Sabina is a small town smack in the middle of America’s food belt. The majority of the village’s population of 2800 is involved in the agricultural industries, especially grain farming. Residents like to tout the town as “the” destination in the county by nicknaming the town the ”Eden of Ohio”. Sabina boasts one of the regions finest historical museums with a collection of regional historic items.
About an hour north of Cincinnati, Sabina’s primary transportation routes are St. Rts. 3, 72 and 729. Nearby commuter airports include Hollister Field in Wilmington, and Bloom Field in Jamestown; Greater Cincinnati International Airport is about 75 minutes away.
SRWW Fire District serves the villages needs. The nearest hospitals are Fayette County Memorial Hospital in Washington Courthouse, Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, or Greenfield Area Medical Center in Greenfield providing emergency, obstetrics and both inpatient and outpatient care.
Life’s necessities can be found, but a more in-depth shopping experience can be found in nearby Wilmington or Washington Courthouse.
Sabina is one of the key destinations in the county’s Rails to Trails bike trail that connects Clinton’s residents with the area’s rich outdoor opportunities. Residents enjoy celebrating “Sabina Heritage Day” in Richland Township Park each summer. And frequently folks gather at the historic 50’s diner in town to try out the daily specials and ‘sit a spell’.
