Amelia was settled in 1809 with log cabins at its first homes. A sawmill was built around 1826 followed by the construction of several other mills. The area was hence called Milltown which turned into Milton. In 1836 the village was renamed Amelia in honor of Amelia Bowdoin, a popular tollgate operator on the Ohio Turnpike. Once an area where only farmers and artisans lived, the natural country charms of the village of Amelia are being rediscovered. Many have already invested in beautifully wooded building sites of fast growing value. There are 4,800 residents in the village. In 2019, Amelia residents voted to surrender village powers and become unincorporated areas as part of Pierce and Batavia Townships.

The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is just 25 minutes away via I-275. I-471 makes this area very accessible to downtown Cincinnati. 125 bisects the village. Clermont County Regional Airport is located in nearby Batavia. Public transportation in Amelia is provided by Queen City Metro.
Mercy Hospital Clermont in Batavia is 10 minutes from Amelia. Mercy Hospital Anderson is within 20 minutes. Cincinnati’s major hospitals (including Children’s Hospital Medical Center, University Hospital, TriHealth Bethesda North, TriHealth Good Samaritan and The Christ Hospital) are located within a 45-minute drive from Amelia.
Amelia features a Kroger Marketplace for convenient shopping. There are also a few local stores in town for daily needs. Major shopping is not more than a 15-minute drive to Eastgate Square, Eastgate Mall Crossing (Ashley Furniture), Villages of Eastgate Square and Jungle Jim’s International Market. Eastgate Mall offers three major department stores, several discount stores and some 90 other shops, restaurants and services. Anderson Township Towne Center is also a 20-minute drive and offers shopping and may restaurants.
Fork Reservoir, the scenic East Fork River and nearby Ohio River hold appeal for fishermen, boaters, swimmers and campers. Artists can visit the picturesque Nature Preserve and Stonelick Valley with their easels. A YMCA is in nearby Batavia. There is a private swim club and four public golf courses within a 30-minute drive. One country club in Withamsville has an 18-hole golf course. All Little League sports are available. The community has several annual events including an Easter Egg Hunt, National Night Out, Christmas Parade and Citizen of the Year. Spencer Shank Memorial Park features a playground and dog park area. Jenny Lind Park is located just outside of the village. East Fork State Park is nearby and offers hiking, biking, fishing, swimming and other outdoor activities. The Mercy Health West Clermont HealthPlex in nearby Batavia features exercise equipment, group fitness classes, lap pool and basketball and tennis courts for its members.
