Harlan Township is named for Aaron Harlan of Xenia, Ohio who served in Congress and was a member of the Ohio General Assembly that created the township. Established in 1818, the area was originally called Salem. The land was divided in 1860 with the southern-most part becoming Harlan Township.
Harlan Township is governed by three trustees and a fiscal officer – all of whom are elected for a four-year term. The township is part of Little Miami, Goshen, Blanchester and Clinton Massie school districts in Warren County. One finds farms of all sizes in Harlan Township. The township is located near to State Route 22 /3. From there, I-71 is within a 15-minute drive. It is a one-hour drive to downtown Cincinnati.
