Historically, Lockland is an industrial community due to its location along the Miami-Erie Canal, which remained operational until 1929. This canal was replaced by Interstate 75. Lockland celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1999 and installed a clock tower and memorial plaza for this special occasion. Its name is from the first set of lock gates found on the Miami and Erie Canal – a part of the transportation route from New Orleans to New York City.
Lockland’s central location along I-75 provides quick access to I-71, I-74 and I-275 and is one of its greatest business and industrial assets. Driving time to downtown is 15 minutes.
"Bethesda North Hospital" – a Level III Trauma Center – is a 10-minute drive away, with well-used emergency room facilities. "Jewish Hospital Kenwood" is also located within 10 minutes drive time and is located on Kenwood Road in Sycamore Township. This hospital features a state-of-the-art patient tower as well as a 24-hour emergency department. It also offers the region’s only adult Blood & Marrow Transplant Center.

Other Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, University Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 25-minute drive.

Lockland has many smaller businesses including restaurants and shops. Tri County Mall and Kenwood Towne Centre are both a 10-minute drive, offering hundreds of national brand stores.
Lockland residents enjoy six parks, including Gardner Park, which features soccer fields, basketball court, sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits and a paved walking trail. The Veterans Memorial is located by the area’s bandstand. The community’s recreational department offers youth baseball and basketball leagues.
