The small towns of Moscow, which has about 140 homes, and Neville, which has about 80, are located within the township, but the township is also characterized by tobacco and grain farmland.
The Ohio River creates its southern border, and it is surrounded by Bethel, Felicity and New Richmond. Big Indian Creek, Maple Creek and Bear Creek flow through the township. Washington Township is of special interest to history buffs, as Ulysses S. Grant grew up here, and the house of one of the first pioneers to settle in the area is preserved as the Buchanan House. In addition, Washington Township claims a fort from the early pioneer days, though the structure no longer stands.
Washington Township is accessible by U.S. 52 and State Routes 743 and 756, the latter running through its center. It is about 30 minutes to Downtown Cincinnati and another 10 to 15 minutes to reach the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The Clermont County Cart Service offers door-to-door transportation anywhere within the county. Adults pay $3, high school students, $2, and children, the handicapped and elderly patrons pay $1.50. Reservations must be made by phone by 11 AM the day before the service is needed.
There are three hospitals close to Washington Township: Anderson Mercy Hospital, Brown County Hospital in Georgetown and Clermont Mercy Hospital. Doctors' offices can be found in Bethel, New Richmond and Amelia.
The nearest shopping facilities to Washington Township are in Cherry Grove. Within the township there are gas stations and a grocery store on the river. Eastgate Mall is the nearest mall.
Fishing enthusiasts enjoy the small fishing lake at the 160 acre Washington Township Community Park. Money raised from the sale of fishing permits is used to stock the lake with fish, including catfish, bass and lake trout. The park also provides picnic areas and a handicapped-accessible paved walking trail around the lake. A community center for this growing township is in development, as are two baseball and soccer fields.
