Following the Revolutionary War and the settlement of the Indian disturbances in the Northwest Territory in 1795, people in the east relocated to Ohio. Many of the settlers were from New Jersey, thus this area eventually became known as the "Jersey Settlement.
Summary
This northwestern Warren County town 14 miles south of Dayton was primarily a railroad town in its early history. This settlement of farmers was named after George B. Carlisle, a railroad man, who bought and divided the land now bearing his name. This rich, fertile farmland with its rural beauty and large, tree-lined expanses has enticed nearly 5,400 people to the peaceful community of Carlisle. Classic farmhouses and new, gracious construction sites abound.
