The Rankin House (in Ripley) overlooks the Ohio River and was a home where slaves found haven when fleeing from Kentucky. The John Parker House is another historic home (and now a museum) that commemorates the life of John Parker who secured his own freedom from slavery, settled in Ripley and was also active in the Underground Railroad.
