The historic Harriet Beecher Stowe House is located in Walnut Hills and the neighborhood played an important part in the Underground Railroad with Ms. Stowe’s involvement. The Walnut Hills Library is Cincinnati’s first Carnegie Library and was designed by Samuel Hannaford. History continues in Walnut Hills with several local organizations their home there. The African-American Chamber of Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky, Easter Seals and United Way are located in the neighborhood.

Walnut Hills has access to I-71 at both Dana Avenue and McMillan Avenue. Drive time to downtown is approximately 10 minutes. It is less than 10 minutes to reach the University of Cincinnati by car via Martin Luther King Drive. Queen City Metro buses serve the community on a regular schedule.

Mercy Health - Rookwood Medical Hospital Center is located along I-71 and is a state-of-the-art facility with an emergency department as well as primary care offices. Jewish Kenwood - Mercy Hospital is a 15-minute drive to the north. This hospital features a state-of-the-art patient tower as well as a 24-hour emergency department. It is the region’s only adult Blood & Marrow Transplant Center. Bethesda North Hospital, a Level III Trauma Center, is located in Montgomery and is a 20-minute drive away.

Other Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 10-minute drive. Many uptown groups of doctor’s offices are also within easy access. One of the most advanced medical facilities in the country for research is located within the University Hospital complex, located in nearby Avondale.

There are many local restaurants in Walnut Hills. Andy’s Mediterranean Grille is situated on Nassau. The Brew House, Caffe Vivace (coffee and jazz lounge), Fireside Pizza, Just Q’in BBQ are located on East McMillan. Be sure to enjoy an ice cream treat from the Green Man Twist during warmer months. The Woodburn Brewery serves their libations from their location on Woodburn Avenue. The Brew House on McMillan features daily food specials.

Local shopping is available along Madison Road from Walnut Hills through to Oakley. Hyde Park Square, only minutes away, features excellent specialty shops, restaurants and banks. Hyde Park Plaza and Rookwood Commons and Pavilion are nearby to serve all convenience needs. A short trip north on I-71 to Kenwood and there is more shopping available at the Kenwood Towne Centre (with Nordstrom, Macy's and Dilliards as anchors) and Sycamore Square with several well-known brand stores.

Annwood Park, Eden Park and Owl’s Nest Park are located in or around the Walnut Hills area. Eden Park is especially scenic with a wonderful view of the Ohio River. Be sure to look for the Capitolene Wolf statue (a gift from Rome to the city in 1932 to honor Roman General Cincinnatus.) Mirror Lake is a fun place to ice skate in the winter when the water freezes. The park has so much more including more statues, a gazebo and trails.

Green Man Park is a green space located on East McMillan Street. Speaking of green – Walnut Hills’ residents definitely have a green thumb – the community has at least six community gardens.

Myron Bush Recreation Center, Williams Branch of YMCA and Melrose YMCA offer a variety of activities. There are numerous clubs and organizations in Walnut Hills including the Cincinnati Tennis Club (private), Walnut Hills Area Council and the Walnut Hills Business Men’s Association to name a few.
