Crosby Township

The Whitewater Shaker Settlement, the fourth and last Shaker community established in Ohio, stands today near New Haven in Crosby Township. Using their standard economy based on seed production and the manufacture of brooms and mats, the Whitewater Shaker community continued to practice and prosper into the early 20th century. The Hamilton County Park District purchased the twenty original Shaker buildings still standing from private owners a few years ago. Fundraising is ongoing to refurbish and renovate the property with the goal to be opened to the public for tours and education.

Summary
Crosby Township is northeast of Harrison in western Hamilton County, home to the communities of New Baltimore, Fernald and New Haven. The area is primarily rural with wide-open spaces of heavily forested land. The area’s 4000 residents have plenty of room to spread out in the 20 square miles of the township. Homes vary in size and architectural style with new building sites planned.
Transportation
Access to the area is by auto, via Interstate 74 or U.S. 52. Winding Dry Fork and New Haven Roads bisect the township. The area is located within 20 minutes of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and, adjacent to the city, Harrison Airport accommodates small private and corporate aircraft.
Hospitals
Cincinnati, Hamilton and Lawrenceburg hospitals serve the Crosby Township area, and Mercy Franciscan Medi-Center - Harrison offers a paramedic unit and air ambulance in the immediate area. Children’s Hospital Medical Center operates Outpatient Harrison here, offering a wide range of diagnostic testing, clinics, and X-ray services. 24-hour fire and medical services are provided through the Crosby Township Fire Rescue Department. Numerous physicians, dental, optical offices and a medical lab are situated in nearby Harrison with the Bright Health Center and Ludlow Hill Clinic nearby.
Shopping
Several small shopping plazas, including Tall Oaks and Crossroads Plaza, serve shopping needs. Additional strip centers are currently under development. Restaurants, pharmacies, barbers and beauticians, childcare centers, sport shops, jewelers and grocery supermarkets are among the services available in nearby Harrison. Excellent shopping facilities are located approximately 15 minutes east in western Cincinnati.
Recreation
Two neighborhood parks, Pottenger and River Road Park offer sheltered picnic areas and swing sets to idle away a sunny afternoon. Nearby, Miami-Whitewater Forest, operated by the Hamilton County Park Board, adjoins the area and offers golfing, swimming, fishing, camping and horseback riding. Two private golf courses and a swim and tennis club are in the immediate vicinity. The Great Miami River borders the township on the east, providing fishers some prime angling. Brookville Lake is 20 minutes from Harrison, offering all outdoor recreation plus provisions for boating and sailing.
