Walnut Hills

Walnut Hills was established in 1804 by Reverend James Kemper. One of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, this eastside community is a story of redevelopment. Wherever you turn in Walnut Hills, exciting changes are taking place.

Summary
The mixture of period architecture and modern renovations is giving this established community a unique new personality. You’ll find French Renaissance, Late Victorian, Classical Revival, Italianate, Art Deco and Contemporary home styles. Many people are gravitating to Walnut Hills because of its attractive home values, older architectural features and streetscapes of mature trees. In some sections there is the added plus of a riverview. Add in newly renovated and constructed homes and Walnut Hills appeals to many housing tastes. Residents take pride in being able to shape the future destiny of this community with locals councils meeting monthly to provide a forum to shape their neighborhood.

The historic Harriet Beecher Stowe House is located in Walnut Hills and the neighborhood played an important part in the Underground Railroad with Ms. Stowe’s involvement. The Walnut Hills Library is Cincinnati’s first Carnegie Library and was designed by Samuel Hannaford. History continues in Walnut Hills with several local organizations their home there. The African-American Chamber of Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky, Easter Seals and United Way are located in the neighborhood.

Transportation
Walnut Hills has access to I-71 at both Dana Avenue and McMillan Avenue. Drive time to downtown is approximately 10 minutes. It is less than 10 minutes to reach the University of Cincinnati by car via Martin Luther King Drive. Queen City Metro buses serve the community on a regular schedule.
Hospitals
Mercy Health - Rookwood Medical Hospital Center is located along I-71 and is a state-of-the-art facility with an emergency department as well as primary care offices.
