Silverton

Silverton is a proud, enterprising village with a heritage that dates back to days shortly after the Revolutionary War. The atmosphere is still antique, but the spirit is progressive in every way. The area was settled in 1809 as a farming community with a railroad stop. Some notable Silverton residents include: Heisman Trophy winner, Roger Staubach; Fortune 500 CEO Carl Lindner; MLB Hall of Fame member and Cincinnati Reds Shortstop, Barry Larkin; and Olympian George Quigley. Silverton now has 4,800 residents. The village is enjoying a $50 million redevelopment project along Montgomery Road which is bringing luxury apartments, office space as well as street-level retail and restaurant spaces.

Summary
Along its two main streets, the business section is a bustling affair. Here new-looking stores, professional buildings and the famous Meier’s Wine Cellar can be found. The residential district has some secluded neighborhoods that can match those of most prestigious suburbs in the area. Homes are attractive, with their modest dignity, their beautiful shade trees, and neatly-kept grounds. Transportation
Queen City Metro bus service is readily available since Silverton is on several bus routes serving Cincinnati and suburban areas beyond Silverton. I-71 passes through Silverton at its southern boundary, bringing downtown Cincinnati within 15 minutes’ driving time and providing quick access toward Columbus. I-75, I-275 and the Ronald Reagan Highway are about 15 minutes away.
Hospitals

There are several hospitals serving Kennedy Heights. "Jewish Hospital Kenwood" is conveniently located on Kenwood Road in nearby Sycamore Township and is only a five-minute drive. This hospital features a state-of-the-art patient tower as well as a 24-hour emergency department. It is the region’s only adult Blood & Marrow Transplant Center. "Bethesda North Hospital", a Level III Trauma Center, is located in the adjoining Montgomery area and is a short 10-minute drive away.

Other Cincinnati area hospitals, such as The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, University Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center are located within a 20-minute drive.

Shopping
There is an abundance of convenience shopping along Montgomery and Plainfield Roads. Kenwood Towne Centre and Sycamore Plaza are a five-minute drive east of Silverton offering hundreds of national brand stores.
Recreation
There are two parks in Silverton. Silverton Park (Montgomery Road and Highland Avenue) is located on the site of the original Silverton Train Station and one can see a replic of that station that now serves a museum with photos from the village’s past as well as the Olympic uniform worn by Silverton native and former Reds’ player Barry Larkin. This park also features a Veterans Plaza to honor those who have served. The Ralph W. Ficke Memorial Park (Montgomery and Stewart Roads) has 12 acres and includes a soccer field, baseball diamonds, batting cage, tennis court, two half-court basketball courts as well as a picnic shelter. Enjoy walking along the trail at this park. Silverton residents enjoy an annual Memorial Day Parade, Taste of Silverton, Family Fun Walk and tree-lighting ceremony in December, among other community events. Meier’s Winery has been in business for more than 100 years and once grew grapes on land that is now the Kenwood Towne Centre. The winery first made fresh grape juice and then wine. During prohibition, it reverted to creating sparkling grape juice. Following the repeal of prohibition in 1933, the company returned to wine making. The company now makes 45 kinds of wines as well as premium grape juices. The Silverton Cafe has been a local spot since the early 1970s and is located on Montgomery Road.
