Harrison

Harrison is located 25 minutes west of downtown Cincinnati, bordering Indiana to the west. Established in the 1800s by Revolutionary War veterans, the area became incorporated into a village in 1850 and a city in 1981. The area has been called “Harrison” since 1814 as a nod to local resident General William Henry Harrison, the ninth U.S. president.

Summary
Interstate 275 connects Harrison with Cincinnati to the east, Indiana to the west, Kentucky and the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to the south, and links two other major Interstates, I-75 and I-71. Primarily a residential community, several important industrial firms are located near the area. Interstate 74 divides the area and soon after the construction of this major highway, families from more densely populated areas east of Harrison contributed to the development of newer communities to the south of I-74. The north remains primarily homes on larger lots, with some developments restricted to at least five-acre tracts.
Transportation
Access to the area is by car, via Interstate 74 or U.S. 52. The area is located within 20 minutes of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and, adjacent to the city, Harrison Airport accommodates small private and corporate aircraft.
Hospitals
Cincinnati, Hamilton and Lawrenceburg hospitals serve the Harrison area, and Mercy Franciscan Medi-Center - Harrison puts a paramedic unit and air care in the immediate area. Numerous physicians, dental, optical offices and a medical lab are situated in Harrison and the Bright Health Center and Ludlow Hill Clinic are nearby.
Shopping
The area is served by several shopping plazas, including Tall Oaks and Crossroads Plaza as well as other shopping strip centers. Restaurants, pharmacies, barbers and beauticians, child care centers, sport shops, jewelers and grocery supermarkets are among the services available in Harrison. Excellent shopping facilities are located approximately 15 minutes east in western Cincinnati.

Locally owned and franchised, national-brand restaurants are located in Harrison. Whether you are hungry for Greek, Mexican, Korean or Italian cuisine, you will be satisfied with your options in Harrison.

Recreation
The City of Harrison maintains four recreational play fields for sports activities, and six parks. The recreation commission operates supervised summer recreation programs. Local groups have youth baseball, football and soccer programs. Miami-Whitewater Forest, operated by the Hamilton County Park Board, adjoins the area and offers golfing, swimming, fishing, camping and horseback riding. Two private golf courses and a swim and tennis club are in the immediate vicinity. Brookville Lake is 20 minutes from Harrison, offering all outdoor recreation plus provisions for boating and sailing.

Harrison has plenty of activities happening throughout the year. During the summer, there are Friday Night Movies, Tuesday Night Concerts and a Fourth of July parade and celebration. Residents also enjoy an annual Halloween event and Christmas parade and celebration.

The Harrison Senior Center has many programs and social activities. Residents can also exercise with programs including line dancing, walking and general exercise classes.
