The beauty of the countryside, the natural river setting, and one of the richest school districts in southwestern Ohio have turned this old river town into one of Cincinnati’s newest suburban attractions. Richmond was founded in 1814 along the banks of the Ohio River. Steamboats were manufactured in New Richmond and the village was a vibrant place of shipping commerce. The area blossomed with woolen mills, saw mills and graining mills along with factories and distilleries. New Richmond also become known for its Underground Railroad activities in the 1830s.

Development has been carefully planned to maintain the community's rich, rural flavor. However, the area is growing so rapidly that homes of progressive styles and designs can be found just about everywhere. Transportation
Driving time to downtown is 30 minutes over a very scenic route along the Ohio River. An interchange for I-275 is a few miles west of the village. This makes any spot in Hamilton County about a 35-minute drive.

Mercy Health Clermont Hospital and Mercy Health Anderson Hospital are both a 20-minute drive. They offer emergency medical care. The village also has its own life squad. Cincinnati’s hospital complex (The Christ Hospital, University Hospital, Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital) are approximately 40 minutes average driving time.
Shopping
Quaint shops and restarurants line Front Street where independent merchants conduct their trade in a semi-rural atmosphere along Front Street overlooking the beautiful Ohio River. Convenience goods stores are found at crossroads in the townships. Shopping has become a pleasant chore with the advent of the big centers in adjoining Anderson Township and Eastgate.
Recreation
Marinas are in abundance on the Ohio River, with over 100 miles of unbroken water for sailing enthusiasts or advocates of power boating. Public golf courses are 15 minutes drive. The high school in New Richmond has a summer recreational program which includes swimming in its indoor pool as well as tennis and other outdoor sports. Three bowling establishments are within a 20-minute drive. There are leagues for boys and girls of all ages which provide competition in baseball, basketball, football and soccer.

The community hosts yearly events including Riverdays in August; cardboard boat regatta; Fourth of July event along the Ohio River; summer outdoor concerts; and an annual Christmas event.
