Settlers came to the Fairfield area in 1794 following the Symmes (or Miami) Purchase. US Route 127 and SR 4 began as bridle paths. With the construction of the Miami and Erie Canal along and the railroad, the community grew. The Fairfield area had pockets known as Symmes Corner, Jones Station, Furmandale and Fairplay. Just 18 miles north of Cincinnati, Fairfield became a successful blend of industrial and residential development. The city of Fairfield was incorporated in 1955 and has now boasts almost 42,000 residents and more than 1,200 businesses.
Large one and two-story homes are plentiful and multiple-dwelling units offer condominium living in a park-like setting. There are also a number of custom designs on lovely landscaped grounds that feature incredible extras. With such a selection of beautiful homes, where plenty of shopping centers, banks, businesses and services are nearby, it’s no wonder Fairfield is called the “city of opportunity.”
Fairfield is ideally situated for highway transportation with two major highways (State Route 4 and Bypass 4) and I-275 just south of the city limits giving access to major cities north and south on I-71 and I-75. The Butler County Regional Airport is located in nearby Hamilton.
Mercy Health - Fairfield Hospital is located on Mack Road and has been ranked as a national top 10 community hospital as well as among the Top 100 of overall hospitals. McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital (Mercy Health) is located in nearby Oxford. Mercy Health also services the community with The Heart Institute and Orthopedics, Sports Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy. Cincinnati Children’s Fairfield is located on Mack Road and provides pediatric care. Bethesda Butler Hospital is located in nearby Hamilton.
A variety of small shops are available as well as the major grocery chain stores for your shopping pleasure. Bridgewater Falls, a lifestyle shopping center, offers many specialty shops and restaurants. Tri-County Shopping Center and Northgate Mall are also a short drive away. Several smaller centers - Hick’s Manor, Fair Plaza, Village Green, and Symmes Center are also available for shopping convenience.
Jungle Jim’s International Market is a food lover’s paradise with numerous departments featuring food and beverages from all over the world. For those who enjoy fresh produce, the Village Green Farmers Market is open April through October at the Village Green Park.
The city has over 20 community parks to enjoy with athletic fields, hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, tennis and volley ball courts, and fitness areas. Fairfield Community Recreation Center, owned by the city of Fairfield, offers golf, a swimming pool, tennis and a private banquet room available for rental. The City of Fairfield Aquatic Center has an eight-lane lap pool as well as many water play areas. A variety of sports groups are available for both youths and adults. The city operates two golf courses at Fairfield Greens South Trace and Fairfield Greens North Trace. The local YMCA provides swimming, baseball and other activities. Hueston Woods State Park is about a 35-minute drive and offers a lake and miles of trails along with boating and fishing opportunities. The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields is a multi-field complex for tournament play for the disabled.
The Fairfield Community Arts Center is located in the heart of the city and hosts many cultural and arts events. Residents enjoy concerts, plays and other performances throughout the year.
The city has a weekly Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays during warmer months at the Village Green.
Fairfield hosts many annual events: Light Up Fairfield (December), Fine Art Fair (June), Groovin’ on the Green (May - August), Red White Kaboom (July), Blues and BBQ, to name a few.
The proximity to Cincinnati allows the Fairfield residents to enjoy the many cultural and sporting events available there.
