About Monroe


Monroe was named in honor of President James Monroe who took office when the city was being settled.


Monroe, 22 miles north of Cincinnati and 25 minutes southwest of Dayton was a major stagecoach stop on the Great Miami Turnpike. It's a city of sturdy little homes that have been standing for a hundred years or more. These historical structures, with their neat lawns and gardens in the rear, have a dignity all their own. Monroe is located on I-75. St. Rts. 63 and 4 run through the heart of the city.


Atrium Hospital and a branch of Dayton's Children's Hospital are located off of I-75 within a 10-minute drive from Monroe. Hospitals in Dayton, Centerville, and Cincinnati are readily accessible.


Walmart, Lowes, Kohls and Target are located in Monroe for convenient shopping. For the bargain enthusiast, Cincinnati Premium Outlet is located off of I-75 in Monroe and offers 100 stores. Flea market fans love Monroe for its Turtle Creek and Trader's World outdoor flea markets. Near the highway strip malls, fast food restaurants and other services proliferate. This is a small town with all the intimate pleasures that provides. There are youth soccer, basketball and baseball leagues. The Monroe Swim Club is busy in the summer months. For golf enthusiasts, the Pleasant Hills Golf Course in nearby Middletown is an 18-hole public course. Monroe is well known for its annual Monroe City Fest with fun for all ages. The Field, an indoor sports arena, is located only a few miles outside of town, and has an indoor soccer field, court and sand volleyball fields and leagues for all ages.
