About Lindenwald

Introduction

One of Hamilton’s oldest industries was in Lindenwald. Begun as Shuler and Benninghofen Woolen Mills, the plant was known worldwide for the production of felts, used by paper mills. The felts and also blankets produced at the plant were sold all over the country. The plant ceased operation in Lindenwald in 1967 after joining with Orr Felt of Piqua.

Summary

15 miles north of Cincinnati along US 127(Hamilton Ave./Pleasant Ave.), Lindenwald is located at the southeastern edge of Hamilton in Butler County. At the turn of the century this was a prosperous neighborhood, but as the 20th century progressed, life in Lindenwald slowed down. Today revival efforts by residents and developers are showing progress. A streetscape project will soon be competed refreshing the area lining it with Linden trees.

Transportation

Lindenwald is ideally situated for easy access to a network of interstate highways( I-275, I-75, I-71) and U.S. 127. City-operated bus lines provide intracity service as well as routes to surrounding metropolitan areas--Cincinnati, Dayton and Middletown. The nearby city of Hamilton has its own all-weather airport with air taxi to and from Cincinnati and Dayton municipal airports.

Hospitals

Two hospitals are within minutes of Lindenwald, Fort Hamilton-Hughes and Mercy Fairfield.

Shopping

Just a few minutes drive takes residents to shopping malls Cincinnati Mills, Tri-County Shopping Center and Northgate Mall.

Recreation

Residents can walk to nearby Lindenwald Park. Nearby the City of Hamilton has 4 outdoor and 1 indoor swimming pools, one private swim and tennis club, 2 municipal 18-hole golf courses, 31 tennis courts, indoor-outdoor tennis club, and an outdoor sports arena. Just minutes away boating and water skiing are available on the Great Miami River. Sixteen miles northwest of Hamilton lies Hueston Woods State Park, with 600-acre Acton Lake. The Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park offers a unique outdoor display of 30 pieces of sculpture in natural setting just minutes outside Lindenwald.
