About Trenton

Summary

Trenton sits in northeastern Butler County about 20 miles north of Cincinnati. Its nickname is the ‘small town with a big heart’. With its roots as a farming village, Trenton was founded in 1799 by Michael Pearce. One of the first buildings was a hotel that offered a night’s rest to travelers going from the then state capital in Chillicothe to Miami University and points west. The Toll House still stands as a symbol of the city’s early history. Growth was slow in the village and it was not until 1971 that the population had reached the required 5,000 to be classified as a city. Over the past six years, Trenton has experienced a marked increase in new residential construction. A MillerCoors Brewery is located in Trenton and is an industry that has been growing in the region. This brewery is proud to state it has not sent any garbage to a landfill since 2009 and partners with local farmers to use 500 of its acres.

Transportation

A bustling St. Rt. 73 provides the major access route through the city, connecting to nearby cities of Middletown and Hamilton. There are shuttles available to and from Middletown/Oxford.

Hospitals

Trenton Fire Department provides fire and EMS service to residents. There are several hospitals in the area: Fort Hamilton, Mercy Health Fairfield and UC Health West Chester.

Shopping

There’s more than enough shopping to meet residents needs in Trenton, especially in the busy downtown including a library and post office. Bark-N-Bunk is a unique and popular farm market with a deli, various vendors and a Sunday lunch buffet. More shopping opportunities are available in nearby Hamilton or Middletown.

Recreation

Trenton Sportsmen’s Club Lake provide nearby sites for sport fishermen. Walnut Grove Swim Club is a busy summer destination and features a large pool for local membership. The Great Miami River Recreation Trail multi-use pathway is a busy part of active residents lives.

Trenton features three parks: Trenton Community Park with a play area, picnic spots, hiking trails and is the site of many community-hosted events. Chrisholm MetroPark Farmstead features a playscape, picnic area as well as the historic Ausburger family home. The Ausburgers were leading members of the area's Amish-Menonite settlement. Woodsdale Regional Park provides scenic hiking trails and picnic areas to enjoy. Nearby Sebald Park has fishing, hiking/biking/run trails, horseback riding as well as picnic and play areas. People go there to enjoy the wildlife.
