Miami Township

About Miami Township


This area was established as a township in 1791 and was settled by Judge John Cleves Symmes of New Jersey, and by William Henry Harrison and his grandson, Benjamin Harrison, both of whom later served as President of the United States.


The township is made up of the villages of Addyston, Cleves, North Bend and a rapidly developing unincorporated area east of Cleves, the village of Shady Lane. The terrain is an interesting combination of hills and valleys, providing many properties with Ohio River views. The North Bend of the Ohio River is considered to be one of the three most scenic views in the entire 1000 mile course of the Ohio River . Properties range from small homes in the earliest settled areas to two story designs in the Shady Lane area, which offer large lots, a greenbelt and recreational facilities to it residents. Deer Run Country Club Estates is an area featuring custom homes in a country club atmosphere, with club membership for residents. Ashton Oaks is a new Golf Course community featuring river views and a Jack Nicklaus designed course.


Accessibility to this area by car is from U.S. Route 52, or State Route 264. It abuts Green Township and is approximately 30 minutes driving time from Downtown Cincinnati.


Mercy Franciscan Hospital - Western Hills is located within 20 minutes of the area and Mercy Fransiscan-Mt. Airy is approximately 25 minutes away. The district has highly trained medical technicians and an ambulance service to local medical facilities.


Many specialty shops, supermarkets, medical and dental services are available locally. Additional shopping is located in the adjacent Western Hills area, approximately 10 minutes away. The Whitewater Mall is located on Routes 50 and 128 and offers a variety of stores.


Shawnee Lookout Park provides an opportunity for many outdoor activities including an 18-hole golf course. Mitchell Memorial Forest is also available for picnics, riding and hiking. Miami-Whitewater Forest is a short drive away and offers golfing, swimming, fishing, camping and horseback riding. Easy access to the Ohio River and its many marinas offer residents many water sports. The village of Shady Lane provides residents with swimming and tennis. Deer Run Country Club offers many facilities including golf, swimming and tennis to its residents. Ashton Oaks Golf Course is new in the area.
