Batavia Township

About Batavia Township

Introduction

Batavia Township is one of 14 townships in Clermont County and is named after Batavia, New York, which was home to many of the settlers. The area was first surveyed in 1788 for Francis Minnis (a captain in the American Revolution.) The first settler was Ezekiel Dimmitt and his wife who built a cabin where the post office now stands on W. Main Street in 1797.

Transportation

The township is located near Interstate 275 which can easily transport one to Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. It is located near state routes 125, 32 and 50. Clermont Airport (aka Sporty’s Airport) is a small regional airport with one runway used by privately flown planes. Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport is a 30-minute drive via I-275.

Hospitals

Mercy Hospital Clermont is a general medical and surgical hospital located in Batavia with 119 beds. All seven of Cincinnati’s finest hospitals are within a 45-minute drive via the interstate, including Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Christ Hospital and University Hospital.

Shopping

Many local an nationally branded businesses, shops and restaurants are located in the township. Eastgate Mall is located nearby the township and is anchored with Sears, Kohl’s, Dilliard’s and JC Penney along with 100 other national brand retail stores. Jungle Jim’s Eastgate draws a regional crowd with its unique specialty in international foods with 200,000 square feet and 150,000 products. The Kenwood Towne Centre with Nordstrom’s, Macy’s and Dillards, along with 200 national brand retail stores is a 30-minute drive away.

Recreation

Batavia Township Community Center Park features the Veterans Memorial Plaza. East Fork State Park is located in the township and features a 2,160 acre lake for boating, fishing and swimming. Camping and hiking trails are also enjoyed in this scenic park. A 13-mile hike bike trail from Batavia to Williamsburg is in the works. 2.5 miles of this trail is now open from Broadway Road to Harsha Lake.
