About Batavia

Introduction

Originally founded as a gold mining town, Batavia preserves a great deal of charm and history.

Summary

Batavia is a center for legal and business activities, and functions as the County Seat for Clermont County. This stable and desirable community is supported by nearby Ford and Cincinnati Milacron plants, as well as the growing county government activities. Here, newcomers have the best of both worlds, historic village homes or newer homes with acreage. Many former city dwellers and suburbanites have found Batavia to be the perfect answer to spacious living in beautiful, natural settings. A major highway provides easy access to shopping, cinemas and East Fork State Park. The University of Cincinnati, Clermont Branch, is located in Batavia. This is the only branch of the university located on the Eastern side of town. Batavia has become a thriving center for education, businesses, and recreation.

Transportation

Public transportation is provided by Croswell Bus Lines and Clermont Authority for Rural Transport (C.A.R.T.) State Route 32 is the main route from Batavia to I-275. The Circle Freeway (I-275) provides access to all of Hamilton County within 30 minutes, and access to I-71 to Columbus and I-75 to Dayton. The I-275 Ohio River Bridge and I-471 provide rapid access to downtown Cincinnati. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is only 45 minutes from Batavia.

Hospitals

Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia is a part of the Mercy Health System. The hospital is an acute care facility with a new emergency room, a complete intensive care unit and outpatient services. Anderson Mercy Hospital is 25 minutes from Batavia and Cincinnati's major hospital complex is within 40 minutes of Batavia.

Shopping

The Eastgate Mall offers numerous shopping and dining opportunities with several department stores and 90 smaller shops and restaurants. This spacious mall is located in the heart of Eastgate. Biggs Place Mall, across the street from Eastgate Mall, provides a tremendous selection of groceries and other products under the convenience of one roof. Walmart and a variety of other specialty businesses are also located in the area.

Recreation

Batavia has several community parks featuring baseball, softball and tennis facilities. The new Clermont YMCA has indoor/outdoor pools, and outdoor tennis courts. There is also a private swim club in Batavia Village offering swimming and tennis. East Fork State Park provides opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, camping, backpacking and horseback riding. The park is situated on 10,500 acres of rolling woods. The lake is the site of the Cincinnati Sculling Regatta and Olympic trials for Rowing.
