The Village of Bradford is located in Newberry and Adams Townships in Miami and Darke Counties, with most residents living in the Miami County area. The village was established in 1857 when it was forest land, prairies and swamp land. The Cincinnati, Columbus & Indiana Railroad Company constructed a roundhouse in Bradford, making the village a more vibrant place to live. Major League Baseball plater Allen Sutton Sothoron is a native of Bradford.
Bradford received its name from Tom Bradford, a mail agent on the aforementioned railroad. (No other Ohio towns were named Bradford and he thought he had a nice name.) In the 1870s, the village grew with businesses, stores and houses. There are under 1,800 residents in the village.
Ohio State Route 721, or Miami Avenue, is the main north-south road in the village and it also marks the county
Reid Hospital and Wayne Hospital are located near Greenville. William Memorial Hospital is located in Piqua.
Bradford residents can shop at a few local stores in the village. Nearby, Piqua has more shopping opportunities including national brand stores at the Miami Valley Centre Mall. Greenville also offers shopping at the North Towne Plaza.
The village has several youth sports programs including baseball, softball and pee wee football. The Village Park offers many festivities including Movies in the Park and a Bluegrass Festival. The community has an annual pumpkin show.
