Carrollton, Kentucky is located about 60 miles south of Cincinnati and 60 miles north of Louisville. It sits at the confluence of the Kentucky River and Ohio River. The city’s population has held steady since the 1970s at just under 4,000 residents.
Carrollton was founded under the name Port William in 1792. It wasn’t until 1838, when Gallatin County split into two counties that Port William was renamed Carrollton as the county seat of the new Carroll County.
Carrollton lies between US 42 and Exit 44 of I-71.
Carroll County Memorial Hospital is located in Carrollton, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is also available.
Downtown Carrollton has a wide variety of antique stores and small boutiques. The Butler Outlet Mall is located on Highway 227, which connects US 42 and I-71. Several other retailers and restaurants sit along Highway 227.
Boating and river sports are a big draw for the area. Carrollton is also home to General Butler State Resort Park, which offers a wide array of recreational activities including biking, camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, golf, tennis and more.
